Too Good to be True?

Saw this car listed on another site. It sounds damn nice and priced, IMO, pretty good. Is there a reason for the low price, i.e. because it doesn't have a side oiler engine?


Here are some details. Superformance MKIII for 57,900. Only 500 miles since finished.

I'd guess price is pretty standard for today's market conditions, but... it sells what it sells for...

Why is the shifter so far off center?? Wouldnt it be in line with the center of the car?

Smoking price, shifter location easily revised with carpet and the most basic of fiberglass repair, ie less than $500 total. Car should be listed at 69900

Installer of powertrain needed to have put at least a 2 inch spacer between shifter and the handle with longer bolts. Use it as leverage to bring the price down.

Nice looking car. I wonder if the shifter position is because of the Jerico top loader. The price seems a little high compared to cars that are actually selling.

I purchased my SPF #2099 used six months ago and it only had 550 miles. I think in these cases the original owners didn't know what they were really getting into. They may have liked the idea of owning a Cobra until they realized they are loud, hot, a little difficult to drive at first, no radio, no air, no windows. Or maybe in this economy something changed with their income flow. What ever the reason some are more eager to sell. I looked at cars similar to this one and mine that were asking $65,000 (too high in my opinion) but if they didn't need to sell they could hang onto it until the right buyer came along. This one seems priced about right for a pretty new build with low miles. Remember that it probably cost close to $70K or more to build this car new. I think it will sell for less but as far as asking price it is fair. I was worried that 550 miles was actually too low for the kinks to be worked out also but luckily I haven't had any mechanical issues and I have put 1300 miles on the car since I bought it. I have adjusted the timing a little due to dieseling on the damn 91 octane they sell around here and had to replace the turn signal stalk that never worked right since day one. I also don't like the shifter position it is too close and doesn't look right either but that can be part of the negotiation and can be changed. Overall looks like a good clean car. Some price their car high and never sell or come down alot. Others start closer to their real price and give very little wiggle room. I would still offer less and see how eager they are to sell. JMO

Folks are still losing their jobs out there in the economy. Maybe it's owned by a former CFO for a medical company who recently had words with a Chic-Fil-A counter worker.

Nope! It took me almost three years and 13,000 miles to get mine just the way I wanted it. 500 miles is just breaking in the oil.

New spf with roush stickers for $79,00 this one has a shelby easy $80K to build new. Obviously somebody is spending big $$$$ or spf, bdr would be out of business. He has the car priced to low. As far as some cars having only 500 miles after years of ownership I would be looking closely at the speedo and asking if it had ever been broken or disconnected. Premium cars always fetch a premium price, if it had a 460 truck engine or a 302 than sure the price would be high. New spf dont come standard with top and tonneu. A new roller is close to $52K.

Excuse me, my engine did not come from a truck.

Ford also offered Police Interceptor versions of the 429 and 460. Horsepower ratings ranged anywhere from 240 BHP to 375 GROSS. The 1971 429 Police Interceptor, with 11-1 compression (which is basically a very slightly beefier version of the 429 Cobra Jet) rated at 375 Horsepower (295 Net). The 460 Police and 460 Police Interceptor were commonly confused with each other. One being a basic 460 with additional cooling bolt-ons, and the more powerful 460 Police Interceptor, with its higher lift camshaft and better flowing heads and exhaust. And before you go off on weight, my SPF with a 460 weighs 2711 without me in it and the weight distribution is 48 front, 52 rear.

This last weekend we did another SPF with a Roush SB 427 and his weighed 2617. Less than 100 pounds difference and his weight distribution was 47.5 front and 52.5 rear.

My old man had a 460 in his Lincoln mark 4. My comment was abrasive, so be it. I drove a SPF with a 460 monster torque, let the clutch out and rpm wouldn't even dip. Ignorant is true, I was told or read you can't rev high because they were built for trucks due to torque and therefore couldn't rev high and weren't designed too.

I know little to nothing about engines, proof is in the pudding, I bought one cobra with a roush. Next one will have 482 strokes. I guess I have gained some knowledge.

I have my rev limiter set at 6 grand and hit it way to often. If my memory serves me right, Ford sold more trucks with the 351w than the 460.
