Yuck. Those were 2 1/2 years you could (should) have been enjoying your car. If the CSX serial number is high on your requirements list I guess that is part of the game. I could never see myself putting a deposit down for an expensive item from an organization having a history of delivery problems. Even if you get your car (as you did), I would be sweating every minute wondering if my money was wasted. That is one of the reasons I purchased a used Superformance. I knew what I was getting. I could get it the same day I issued the check.

I would have no problems buying new from any of the established manufacturers. Superformance, ERA, Factory Five, Backdraft, etc. All excellent reputations. Not a hint of delivery problems. But there is something about dealing with Shelby stuff that gives me pause.

And with this particular issue/lawsuit - who know what the facts are? I do not care.

Jack

Jack,

Sure, there was sweating and swearing, luckely we had Bill Malone in our corner keeping us up to date on the now defunct "Cobra Owners Forum".

Updates and pictures kept us off the ledge..............

CSX's were also much less expensive at the time, $39,900 for a fully finished painted roller. I believe the deposit was $10k.
Better risk/reward ratio, would not do again.

Bill was a big help when I bought a CSX. Pick your dealer carefully.

I was at the Vegas, SAI facility about 2.25 years ago and there were 3 Cobras in the shop being assembled. I was there last March and there were 6 or 7 being assembled in the shop (I believe one was aluminum bodied). I thought they were doing great???? i seem to remember there being some point in there where they were not taking new orders? All of this is kinda strange.

My wife and I visited SAI in July and there was five or six Cobras around, maybe more so they're staying busy. The problem facing SAI has been the demand for the cars has exceeded the supply so that played a significant part of the price increases. The other problem has been getting parts from vendors, which have either gone out of business or have discontinued parts that were used on the Cobras. Obviously they’ve sourced other suppliers or they wouldn’t be shipping cars today.

Personally, I’m disappointed with all of the drama tied to the Cobras. What should be an exciting experience, as it has for some like Doug, has turned into a wretched event for others. Excluding the two issues I had with Becker (which irritated the pi$$ out of me), my transaction was relatively painless. For those who are experiencing a delay in taking delivery of your CSX, it will happen but the question is how long will you have to wait?

My CSX 6046 was ordered April 2010, I ordered a Shelby engine CSX 1006 May 2010. The car arrived at the Dealer March 2011, the engine arrived Feb 2011. I was one of the lucky ones although it seemed forever to me! I had to pay the entire balance due before Shelby would complete the build. I have had no problems with the car so I can not speak for service issues.

My car was ready to leave Las Vegas 13 months after I placed my deposit. I too had to pay the full balance BEFORE THE CAR LEFT HI-TECH!! That was somewhat unnerving, but I have to admit it all worked out really well. I found out that 50% of that wait period is spent doing nothing. It takes 6 MONTHS from the moment you place an order (pay your deposit) to the moment HI-TECH picks up the first screw on your car. At least my AD warned me from day #1, and that help the angst (somewhat ).
I would do it again...

You have that right, if they would tell you up front, Ha! its going to be a year, 18 months, maybe 2 years before you have your car, anyone can live with that or not do the deal. But for gods sake be up front with the customer. By the way who is High Tech? George

I will say this. Choose your dealer wisely.

Based on my personal CSX saga I will be happy to discuss personally my personal experience in acquiring my Shelby for those wishing to contact me. It was not a happy initial delivery.

I will say this, SAI did stand behind me and paid to rectify the mess created by the first dealer with the second dealer who really finished my Cobra who was wonderful.

I also read the the complaint filed by Becker. I am an attorney and don't play one on tv. Certain aspects of the complaint don't seem to add up and create numerous questions. Not saying Becker's claim has no merit but a lot of questions have to be answered in my mind and facts brought to light before I would reach any conclusions either way.
