Default Cobras coming up for auction in the New Year

The New Year auction season is fast approaching. Here's a list of the original and continuation-series Cobras that are slated to cross the block then.

Original Cobras

Auctions America - Collector Car Auctions

now painted silver

CSX3016 - Shelby 427 Cobra competition model
Mecum Kissimmee
Jan 25 (Sat), 2014
1965 Shelby 427 Competition Cobra CSX3016, 1966 Sebring Class Winner for sale by Mecum Auction

now painted silver as it competed in the 1966 Sebring 12 Hours

Continuation Cobras

CSX4112 - Shelby 427 Cobra
Mecum Kissimmee
Jan 25 (Sat), 2014
1965 Shelby Cobra CSX4112, 427 CI, 4-Speed for sale by Mecum Auction

CSX6024 - Shelby 427 Cobra

1965 SHELBY COBRA CSX 6000 Lot 1085 | Barrett-Jackson Auction Company

CSX6112 - Shelby 427 Cobra
Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale
Jan 18 (Sat), 2014
1965 SHELBY COBRA Lot 1367 | Barrett-Jackson Auction Company

The following two cars are not quite "Cobras" per se, but are also noteworthy.

AK1120 - Autokraft MkIV
Mecum Kissimmee
Jan 24 (Fri), 2014
1985 Autokraft AC MkIV Cobra Roadster #120 of 300 Built, One Owner Car for sale by Mecum Auction

CM/3/63 - Cooper-Ford "King Cobra"
Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale
Jan 18 (Sat), 2014
1963 SHELBY COOPER MONACO KING COBRA Lot 5063 | Barrett-Jackson Auction Company

I haven't seen any Cobras listed yet for RM Auctions, Russo and Steele, and Gooding & Co. in Scottsdale this January, but things may change.

The AC MK IV "AK1120" listed was sold new by our dealership.......it was received with shipping damage from unloading at the port. They drove it out of the container without ramps and dropped it on the oil cooler scoop pushing the fenders and nose up. We estimated almost 10K to repair. Mike George bought it damaged and had it repaired by a guy who later worked at my restoration shop. I have photos of the damage. I will bet the car is represented by the auction company as "mint, never dinged!"

And it definitely did NOT have "factory air conditioning"!!!! "Four speed" T10?!?! And then it's a "four speed T5"!

Mike passed away a couple years ago and most of his collection was sold off at auction. While it my still be on the New York title in Mike's name it has had another owner (at least one additional) who is now selling it. I hate these oversold auction companies descriptions.

OK, so the auction company is hawking a Testarossa that was given to Don Johnson by Enzo personally in 1989.......after Enzo died?

Yes, he died in 88 but he came back just to give this car to Don Johnson. I would question Enzo giving ANYTHING to ANYONE based upon his reputation!

That is the car being offered here, after a repaint from the blue with white stripes.

Which is the real deal?
The parts or the car?

I'll leave that determination to the time when any and all of the parties that claim ownership produce their evidence, and then we'll see what happens.

I thought I read that McCluskey did the resto on this example of 3016. If that is true, does his fine work add any credibility to it being "it" or is he simply another hired gun and his efforts add value to the overall product?

Mike's work on any Cobra adds value. But if what he starts with ends up not being the car it was thought to be, even his skills can't alter that reality.

Default Denial

I suspect someone who could end up unfortunately bidding on that auction would appreciate evidence being swept under the rug, but that's just my take on it.
