Buddyg is right on. As he defined what he wanted for his money, the Cobra is a good choice.

The original is now a collectable and may be well worth the money. A historic and iconic automobile and a legend.

There is little doubt that there are replicas that by any measure are better performers than the originals.

If you want attention they will get it, people just love them.

I certainly enjoy mine, but I drive it at times and places where there is no one to notice it or me.

But if you define a ultimate ride as a high performance car that can brake and accelerate and handle and reach and sustain high speeds, there are dozens of production cars for the same money (including some American cars) that can go around Nurburgring much faster.

It is what it is.

Used Plymouth Prowler @ $30K would suit me just fine as a toned down alternative to a cobra replica, and they are appreciating.

I love my Cobra, nothing else like it. But, I have thought about trading it for a Porsche 996tt. My wife would be more likely to use it on date night and she likes to drive too.

Justin, if you are thinking about a Porsche and you don't need a back seat to torture your children, take a look at a Cayman.

They are about half the cost to buy and maintain and have a torque curve so flat you can actually use them in city traffic and they really really handle.

My kid calls them the " everyday" or " working man's " Porsche and even females can drive them without stalling them and burning out the clutch.
If you stall a 911 at a traffic light, to restart it, you have to jump up and down on one leg and rub your belly and pat your head to defeat the f'ing security computer.

The Cayman also has mega storage for all the stuff she has to have to go more than 100 miles from home.

I have never driven one, but Porsche is proud as hell of their auto, in fact, they have some new models that you can't get a manual.

The DSG trans is awesome with the paddle shifters, nothing can shift as fast, but I need a manual trans just something about me doing the work, that's why the 911 is the ultimate driving sportscar...

I owned a 1966 Tiger, with the 289. They were harder to work on than my existing 460 in my Cobra. My last work truck had a 650 hp diesel by Caterpiller. More get up and go than I needed pulling 80,000 pound payloads. I get the same thrill driving my Cobra, but the Cobra is much faster. The car gets to legal speed faster than I can think about. And, the sound of the big block rumbling at 1800 rpm doing 100 klms is like listening to a love song. It has the only stereo I will ever need. The pipes!

Well you should sell it and buy a used Aston and let us know how it all works out for you!

"Dollar for dollar nothing can compete with a Cobra." That was the premise of this thread. Of course, you should have expected some dissent right, especially when you use an absolute term like "nothing."

As for selling my Cobra, why? Because I like more than one car? Most of us do. And most of us own multiple cars, as I do. No need to sell, buying cars is not a zero sum game.

For ME there is nothing that gives me everything I'm looking for at that price. And yes I own multiple cars and for ME dollar for dollar nothing compares to my CTS-V for a four door luxury sedan. Go ahead and let's hear about your Mercedes or BMW. LOL

Again, the premise was a dollar for dollar comparison to a Cobra. There's nothing wrong with your choice, but you opened a thread and folks here are discussing alternatives. I think it's a great thread.

As for Cadillac, Mercedes and/or BMW, I'm not a fan of any of them, unless we're talking about vintage stuff like 300SL's, Gullwing's, 507's, etc. or even the E30 M3.

If we're talking vintage alternatives to the Cobra, then I think the best alternatives are the Sunbeam Tiger, 1965-1967 Big Block Corvette or maybe even a few musclecars like a '70 Cuda Convertible.

Agree 100%,over the years have owned a lot of muscle cars none have done it all for me like the big block Cobra. To top it off it will never rust can do almost anything I want to it without hurting value. It is easy to work on somewhat now that all the special tools and equipment are here in the shop.
Just knowing it is out in the shop makes me feel good inside and the wife loves the car.

Thumbs up

This is a good thread, I've heard many different stories about the preferances of drivers here. Some prefer porsches, vettes, mustangs, bemmers, benz, prancing poneys, lambo's, bulls etc, etc! Some have more than a few in their garage. But dollar for dollar! No car (of any era) on Tara Firma can give you this many emotions in a shorter time frame than the AC Cobra! If you don't feel that in the marrow of your bones when pressing your AC down the strip, around the corners, track or streets. Or just cruzing the back roads or at the shows. Or even monkey wrenching parts; making mods, as all true hot rodders do! Then mabe the AC Cobra isn't for you. Thats ok! Not many really get it; many perfer showing. Rather than living it!

Been there, (300 SEL, Porsche, Jag's etc.) done that! Thanks for your concern! I have my wine of choice! This doesn't mean I may not pick up a Daytona, GT-40, FIA, slabside etc. someday for a change of pace. Someday? Mabe you too; will find your true calling. I'll drop a quarter in a wishing well for you!

Thanks for making my point, even if you try something different as described above, your wine choices are from the same winery. You really DO need to get out more lol.

I wanted something I could take to car shows like the Woodward Dream Cruise and Metro Cruise. This car shines in those events.

I wanted something fast, fun and exhilarating. Check, check and check. Nothing like the side pipes singing in your ears at full throttle!

I wanted something I could take to the road course a couple times a year and the drag strip once or twice a year. Cobra is perfect for both uses.

It's a convertible which is a bonus.

There is just nothing for the money that has all these things like the Cobra!

I'm so glad to be back in the family!
Then the alarm went off and the fantasy was over ...

Many kit cars/replicas achieve the same thing, yours just happens to have a cobra body on it

Ooooh love the 32-33 Fords! Listen to each their own for me it's the Cobra. Now if I had big bucks you can be sure I would also own a Ferrari, Lambo, Aston, 67 Corvette, etc... I would have a warehouse full of cars and drive a different one each day.
