If you "rotate" the order around the cap a little bit it helps some on the 7 and 8 problem because the wires aren't tracking next to one another as much. You know it doesn't matter where the #1 plug actually is on the cap, provided you have the distributor in properly for it so that the overall timing is right. If you don't know what I'm talking about, then forget this post and just put wires in the location and order as stock from the factory.

Did it work for you?

if not, three things come to mind:

1: Your distributor is off a tooth or two and/or is not indexed correctly
2: You are not setting up your plugs based on proper #1 location on the distributor cap.
3: You are not wiring them up in the proper engine rotation.

That was sort of my point. Since some of the small blocks run a different firing order maybe he found a odd one molded with the 1 5 4 3 7 2 6 8 order on it and marketed as specific for small block applications. A Chinese special possibly.
