Both, actually.
From reading his past postings over the years, Gary is fine gentleman and he, along with his other editorial committee members, really did write the SCOF Owner's Manual, which is awesome. It's also wonderful that David Kirkham from Kirkham Motorsports, Jay from Vintage (BDR Dealer), Rick Muck (Mark IV from Time Machine Motorsports-SPF Dealer) and Bob Putnam from ERA post here as well. These folks are important to the Cobra hobby.
But, as I mentioned in another thread, maybe it was this one, I'm "cynical" by nature. But if you prefer "smartass", then that's fine with me too.

Well, it's either "smartass" or "dumbass." I mean, it's got to be one or the other, right? Or can you be both at the same time? That's a pretty deep question.

After reflecting on the meanings, and their relative usage, I believe they're entirely different words.
" Dumbass," at least to me, is someone who would paint their Cobra beige and install some sort of home insulation around their roll bars thinking the insulation may actually help in an accident. I think an additional example, would be someone who straps their dog into the passenger seat of a Cobra, says they're taking their furry little critter for ride, and then takes a picture of said critter in their Cobra in what appears to be a darkened garage. Eschewing actually taking a picture of said furry little critter outside on the road, possibly near a park, maybe even an oyster bar.
OTOH, a " smartass" is someone who has at least a modicum of intelligence, and uses it to pop into threads and poses what he (or she) thinks are "deep questions."
Hey, maybe you're right, you can be both at the same time.

So it's your position that one can be "half," "smart," and "dumb" all at the same time? That there is a mind-blower.
