Carroll Shelby and the "left over frames" saga?

Does anyone know the facts about Shelby claiming that he 'found' some left over Cobra frames from the 1960-70s? Supposedly in the 1990s, Carroll reproduced Cobras with McClusky LTD. and sold them as 'originals'? Also read an article that Kirkhams were somehow involved? Do these 'reproduced' Cobras sell for high dollar?

True!

RodKnock 05-27-2014 05:18 PM

For a mere $245, including shipping, you can have all your answers and more.

SAAC - The 2008 World Registry - Volume 1

Begs the question, is there a freakin' Volume II and what's in it?

RodKnock 05-27-2014 05:31 PM

Volume II is 1965-1967 Shelby Mustangs

Volume III is 1968-1970 Shelby Mustangs (in progress)

Yeah they found a handful of tubs in the back hanger at the airport facility. Now it is Thai airlines(not sure if it still is). Nice set up was used by Lance and his Scarabs before Shelby.

Truth be told there were never any left overs at all. California wanted Carroll to make a formal statement or something and he never did. These were suppose to be original cobras with some NOS(new old stock). McClusky made these reproduction Cobras. That's the cliff notes version.

Guys you need new blood help the guy out.

Agreed. The Registry is recognized world wide as the most authoritative source on all things Cobra. Worth the purchase price.

Are those your words or were they taken from the registry's intro/preface, just curious.

neither, just reading up on Shelby and his many businesses. Online articles seem to gloss over this subject and I am curious what the Cobra community had to say.

My words. Is there a more or equally recognized authoritative work that catalogs these cars, tracks them, provides detailed history on the cars in general and specific and sets out definitions for use by prospective purchasers and is the combined work of many with years of experience and knowledge?
There are other good books on the subject of Cobras but none that do or attempt to do what it has been doing for decades and is to my knowledge widely accepted as Bible and go to reference on all things Cobra and on these cars both general and specific.

Case in point. Rodknocks referral even though there are other writtings on the subject.

AL427SBF 05-28-2014 07:22 AM

No need to try and justify your answer, those being "your words" answers the question.
Now, how does the SAAC Registry define its' own body of work? In the preface, intro or where ever, how does it define itself?

lnfletcher 05-28-2014 07:30 AM

Here he goes again, tweaking the cobra guys!
NYG Cobra Make descriptions tells it all.

1985 CCX 05-28-2014 07:32 AM

The cars arrived body on assembled rollers from UK..............
Shelby was a master at getting $ for stuff, the old saying "if it sounds to good to be true" ringing in your ear.....

Come on, really?

Those "90s" 427s may or may not fetch a premium. If I remember correctly they were sold (or just one of them) in the 90s for $500.000. Which was way overprized.

My feeling tells me their value is considerably above current CSX4000 with ally body, but far from the value of a 60s 427. Very far.

What would you pay for it, guys, $300.000? I don't expect an answer. Let's wait until one went on auction.

Help the NYguy out. He can be a bit nagging, but as OR said, we need new talent here.
And I agree on buying that Registry.

Thank you, Dominik. I will be fine without a Cobra mentor. I have other forums and hobbies to keep me busy.

This is supposed to be the largest non-biased Cobra site and we should be able to write and discuss good & bad sides of Cobras and Mr. Carroll Shelby's life. My interest of Shelby cars and Mr. Shelby started when I saw "Gone in Sixty Seconds" and the Eleanor Mustang. That was the good, fun side- dreaming I will own Eleanor. The bad side is hearing words like 'scam', 'ripoff', 'crook' rants from my dentist neighbor who lost $$ trying to buy an official licensed Eleanor. His Eleanor dream turned into a nightmare.

nyg has the buffoonery gig down pretty good, it's entertainment so don't knock it, think about how boring school would have been without the class clown :)

buf·foon·er·y
noun
behavior that is ridiculous but amusing.

razerwire 05-28-2014 09:25 AM

nyg has the buffoonery gig down pretty good, its entertainment? Goes beyond that. He knew answer before he asked, he used words like "found" "original" "reproduced" in question to draw others into his cyber Bullying. Cyber bullying refers to any harassment that occurs via the internet, cell phone, or other devices. Communication technology is used to intentionally harm others through hostile behavior such as sending text messages and posting ugly comments on the internet to hurt or embarrass another person. Cyber-bullying could be limited to posting rumors or gossips about a person in the internet bringing about hatred in other's minds; or it may go to the extent of personally identifying victims and publishing materials severely defaming and humiliating them. This site could be involved in a lawsuit such has happened to other forums. I would remove this whole post because its not "entertaining".
