Default Which red is this red?!!

Hope someone can help, does anyone know how to get the paint code for this red cobra? From what google tells me it is CSX3005, whether this is correct or not I don't know, I just love the colour!

While pictures can be very deceptive, it's very close to the Fillipenetti T70 in the background. Very possibly Rosso Corsa, late 60's early 70's version.
Rangoon Red is sure a possibility since I believe it was a FMC homage to Rosso without that bothersome Italian connection.

I know when I went looking for some touch-up paint to match the Rangoon Red on my car, one of the closest matching colours was listed as Italian Red (IIRC).

You can't go wrong with Ferrari Rosso Corsa Red from the 2004 model F360. I painted a customer's motorcycle in this colour and it blew me away because it was that rich and intense of a red.

I've never owned a red car and I've committed to painting my own Cobra in Viking Blue.....but after seeing the Rosso I seriously considered changing to red. Still keeping it blue but the red was/is gorgeous!

PS. If you want the PPG paint code, send me a PM and I'll look it up on my system at work in the morning.

My ERA is Rosso Corso Red with Wimbledon White stripes. It's hard to capture the depth of the paint with a cell phone, but it's one the purist shades of Red I've seen. I'm not even a fan of Red cars but this color blew me away.

A Cobra painted a Ferrari color? I bet Shelby is spinning in his grave over that!
Being as the pictured car is an original comp car, I'd still bet it's Rangoon. Looks like it might be clear coated as well.

He's probably also spinning due to the fact that I use to own a CSX 4000 series cobra and sold it to buy an ERA due to the better quality of construction and customer service

Check with Mike McCluskey in Torrance, CA, as his shop painted 3005.

Red is already a premium priced paint. That Ferrari red will probably have a premium on top of that. I wouldn't be surprised if it's over $1,000 for a gallon.

Guys, be forewarned, ferrari red, i.e. Rosso Corsa, comes in over a dozen variations. From the 1940's to present it changed considerably from early, more maroon to current somewhat orange in tone. If you go to a good shop with color plates you will see. The versions from the 60's are the very intense reds that really pop.
This I know from years of building very high end sports and formula models, mostly 1/24 and 1/43 scale involving an extensive paint shop. Even a few high detail Cobras along the way.

Sea2jet -

Can you post a picture of your car outside in the sun? It looks great and may be my next color.

Here you go John. Not the best picture. The car is at ERA. I can take some better ones when I go to pick it up. It does take on a different look outside in the sunlight. I like it best in the shade. Not sure where you are located but it can be seen at ERA... Bob, I completely agree, I wish my car was solid Red... I took the car to Napa to have them shoot the paint with their camera so I could order touchup paint. It came up as UFN Number 1704923 Ford Radiant Red and was a very good match. I'm not Sure which type of Rosso Corsa paint Tony(ERA's preferred painter at the time) used when he painted the car. Mike

That red that looks Chevy Orange under florescent light, is Rangoon Red. A stock ford color from 1957 through 1967.
