[quote=AL427SBF;1333849]Quite to the contrary the "Ford guys" were being quite gracious in the beginning with congrats given to Thor's sale. Even after a little poking at them with his opening post ...

Three things come to mind, 1) you must be a chevy guy, and/or 2) you want to refuel the fire as interest may be waning and you want some drama, and/or 3) you're just not the sharpest knife in the drawer as this thread has been easy to follow up to this point with no "brain teasers" to solve.

Guilty!

Check out the post about the new Car Builder magazine. On pages 142-144 "Snake Charmer" Looking Back On Some Memorable Cobras, by Editor Jim Youngs. All the Cobras he thinks of as "memorable" are all GM powered. Long live the Bow Tie Cobra!!

blykins 01-09-2015 01:41 PM

Just because it's memorable doesn't mean it's a good memory.

My wisdom tooth surgery was memorable, but I don't look at it with giddiness.

I'm still chuckling at...

" if you are a Chevy guy, a HotRod Guy, A Durability guy, Highest performance guy, put a Chevy in"

;)

Just noticed this thread. This is very entertaining I must say.

Scarface is one of the worst films of all time? If it's so bad, why do the networks keep airing the thing?

Until I see a copy of the deposit into Thor's bank account, redacting any personal info of course, this thread and everything else here, is BS. And while we're at it, I'll also start believing that you can flatten your belly in 8 days and penises can be enlarged too.

Oh, and as for "fudging numbers", can we get any a fudged %'s from you? It doesn't have to relate to anything, so no different than usual.

For the same reason people keep eating McDonalds.

Come on, it's the most over-acted POS of all time. I'm embarrassed for Pacino watching that film.

Thor maine 01-09-2015 03:20 PM

So Rod Knock , you have been looking into that Penis enlarging thing???

rodneym 01-09-2015 03:26 PM

Thor, are you getting another Cobra? Another car? Out completely?
BTW, I'm rodneym, not RodKnock. ;)

Have you seen the more recent news on McDonalds? People have stopped eating there.

I'll answer that question as soon as you post the verifiable deposit info on your Cobra transaction.

In case you haven't noticed, I've been providing smart cobra electrical guidance in another thread, as opposed to the drivel that's in this thread.:p

rodneym 01-09-2015 03:55 PM

I, for one, am ashamed of myself.
I'll purify myself by going for a drive tonight.
You know what, it's so chilly here in SoCal, that I have to wear a windbreaker when driving over Vincent Thomas bridge!

DanEC 01-09-2015 05:08 PM

I've tried to ignore this too - fact is a high percentage of "Cobra" replicas are built with little regard to faithfulness to the originals. Also having a 1966 427 Corvette (many L88 parts in it) I have a hard time getting too excited about the subject. The car is scary powerful and anyone who things a BB Chevy can't put out the power is delusional. I wouldn't stick one in a "Cobra" replica myself, but then I wouldn't put two roll bars on one; or 17 inch wheels; or a 460 engine, or a non-stock dash; or a candy color finish; or etc, etc. But many wouldn't be caught driving one with a rectangular tube chassis, a fiberglass body, or with a 2-bolt main block, or with 1850 Holleys. So, let's all gore each other's goat and get it over with. I suspect Thor maine probably regrets bringing the subject up - hope his sell went well and he is happy to move on to his next project.

Lets stay factual shall we? There never was a "bow tie" Cobra. Ever.

As far as "replica" Cobras are concerned, Chebbie powered ones exist in the extreme minority and usually birthed due to cost restraints and or ignorance as to proper equipment.

Very simply, no knowledgable person in their right mind would put a Chevy 427 in their Cobra replica if given the choice to use an FE427 or FE428 at the same cost. Period. Bottom line.

What was Thor's selling price again? Did I miss it?

Thor maine 01-09-2015 10:22 PM

Yes, but I'll have to express the selling price as an algebraic equation:

Selling Price = Asking Price + $9,000

The other clue is Thor said his car sold for a little less than what is mentioned in Post #16 by Jeff, which is the following: "...if you sold you car for 9k more than we discussed you net upwards of $25k..."

And then there's this statement by Thor: "Date code correct FE all dressed maybe $25k or more, a Chevy mid 60's 427 fully dressed maybe $8k so the FE CCX sells for $55k the Chevy CCX sells for $40k all motor difference Boom done!!

I'm thinking somewhere around $50,000, since his costs basis was roughly $25,000 and he allegedly "netted $25,000."

And I don't think a date code correct FE all dressed is $25K. And I doubt most would be actually buy and install a date code correct FE for their Cobra replica today.

Regardless of the engine, you sold a car that could not be licensed for the street?

Well that explains everything! Of course Chebbie power is the the superior choice for a Cobra replica that can't be licensed for the the street. They make for superior field cars without a doubt.

How did I miss that? This has all been a terrible misunderstanding.

Thor, I do apologize.

Thor came clean on the question, now there's you at the other end of the spectrum. You say to build your car today it would cost $260K. Ok, what did it cost you to build yours (at the time) and what year was that?
