Really Pete? Now don't take this the wrong way, because your car is one of my favorite Cobras, but that's why I'm surprised you (with your awesome obsession for detail) would try to say they look the same when they simply don't.
Sure, paint GOOD YEAR on a tire and you'll fool most people, but the sidewall overall shape, the sidewall profile, the relation of the sidewall to where it meets the tire tread, the tread shape, width and pattern...it's all different.
The Avon shape is great, and I'm not saying it's sub standard in any way. In fact there are a million reasons why Avon make a better tire than the billboard. It just doesn't seem as though you would be able to duplicate the sidewall shape of a bias ply tire with a radial tire. There are probably a million reasons why a manufacturer wouldn't want to anyway.

I guess I had not isolated the shape of Goodyear billboards from other 15" tires.
Now it is obvious, bill boards do look awesome and the shape, the bulge, and the letters really complete the look of the car. The radials don't have that shape.
I am pretty sure I am going with 18's and a 335 rear. I like that look although some do not.
Thanks for pointing out that subtlety.

I intend to go 18's myself, I see it as part of a suspension upgrade along with better brakes. What about rims? Dare to be different again? Some very nice monoblock options out there.

Detroit - I like the look also and after seeing the SPF raffle car up close, I'm convinced that new tires and rims are in the forecast for #2899.

Thanks Craig, no I don't take constructive criticism wrong.
Now, I'm not the only one...

Avons with stenciled Good Year painted lettering or is it the rubber letters that are glued on?

Thanks G-Pete. I see they make rubber letters spelling 'AVON' for people opposed of putting 'GOODYEAR' on an Avon tire. However, I would only have one per tire in lieu of two on the tire as shown on their website.

I wonder if the letters weigh enough(Avon)that the tires need to be balanced after gluing them on? G-Pete, your tires look awesome on your car.

Well, I have decided to go with the Avon tires and ordered a set through Roger Krause today. Should be here by the end of next week. It may be a few months as I have some winter/spring projects planned for the car but I will post my thoughts of the Avons.

I ended up going with the 335 30 18 in the rear and a 275 35 18 in front. Michelin PS2. I like the look I believe the performance will at least be the same and they should last longer.
