Zacttly how I do it and I use a 1/4 drive rachet, as soon as you see the cork gasket "squishing out a little" quit........I tighten the bolts a little at a time,usually 3 or 4 times,gggggggggggggooooooooooooooo ssssssssssllllllllllllllllloooooooooooowwwwwwwwww. ...

Crushing is good for grapes, not so good for gaskets. Everytihing David said above. Also, do a search on this site. Plenty of info here on pan gaskets and sealers.
