I took patrickt's advise and contributed. I use the site, like it and it helps me enjoy my car. Small price to pay.

I'm all in for Lifetime Membership and have been for a while.
The crackup is that it comes with an expiration date! So, I guess that's the big day when I will be moving on to the promised land!

Maybe instead of that futile magnesium wheels effort, I instead started a fund drive for this site?

Your time would be better served if you simply "called out" some of the members here and asked them bluntly why they can't dig in to their pockets and pull out some small change... in between their many, many postings, that is.

The way I see it, if you participate here sooner or later you will have or will learn something that will save you more time and money than any contribution you make.
Examples are everywhere from an easy fix to keeping you from buying the wrong tires or the wrong heads or the wrong.....well, you get the idea.

OK, then why are there so many bums and freeloaders? Many of whom are driving six figure cars, by the way....

So, you think there's a link between contributing to a for-profit website and getting a more reliable website service? Hmmm, how quaint.
Again, I'll play Devil's Advocate and say I'd personally prefer any donations go to non-profits that service the needy, soup kitchens, the homeless shelters, health care and haircuts for those that fall through the cracks in our society.
The "rats"? Puh-leeze.

Sorry lads, I see it from different perspective.
It won't be popular, particularly with the vocal minority, weighing in on this topic, but hey, I gotta say it:
The value of this site (or most any site) IMHO is NOT the URLs or servers hosting it,
but the content that forum members contribute.
I tip those who contribute, thanks Patrick, either directly with tidbits, information, spare parts, my patronage, or directly by shouting them drinks
I've never met the owner of the site, seems like a nice a guy from his seldom recent posts, I wish him all the best, so I'm not directing any malice in his direction, nor am I complaining, but the simply curious how most all other websites I frequent seem to work comparatively flawlessly, yet don't have membership fees and/or charge seemingly less for advertising if what NYG quotes is correct.
I simplely query on behalf of others to better understand.
Perhaps then to offer suitable solutions.
I can't help but think, If money would solve this problem then why has it got worse (in my experience, and anecdotally others) when more people are contributing now than ever before?
Sorry, I won't pay, as a matter of principle.
It's like government asking for more tax yet delivering less in my mind. Or pay TV then drowning content with adds. No?
Conversely, If there was no advertising, then as a matter of principle I would subscribe.
Ps. Apologies for not responding sooner. This scurrying rat had to get some sleep.
Enjoy!

This is exactly how I see it. I am on hundreds of forums, most that survive and thrive through site sponsors, less sponsors than this site with similar traffic, and by far this is the worst forum when it comes to down time and load time. It is on par with the late 90's/early 2000's forums. That's fine with me, I really don't care, it is what it is. The owner is not begging for donations or for people to buy memberships, rather it is other forum members doing it which makes the suggestion irrelevant. Either way, purchasing a membership seems to not help the problem with this forum, which is down time. The search functions and galleries seem to work just fine. I would actually get rid of the galleries to non paying members...if that helped the forum.
In the end, I won't pay to be on a forum that is constantly down. But I will also live with the huge annoyance that it has become until a better forum with the massive amount of content that this one has comes along.
