Jay Leno has more cars than you can count.....I'm sure a guy who does thousands of car interviews and reviews per year just says what is on his mind sometimes. The #1 thing I dislike about Cobra ownership is both people who let having a replica bother them as well as people who own a real one and think it is something special. The whole real vs replica is so silly in my opinion......its likes saying oh gosh that bible isn't original so I sure don't want one of those.
TheExtreme likes this.

I watched the video and agree that Jay was (in my mind) referring to ‘kit cars’ that are far off from any resemblance to what they were trying to replicate. From what I have seen and heard, Jay is a down to earth guy. Case in point, several years ago at the Monterey Historic Races, he was walking through the pits by himself, went right past some mega buck cars and talked with the guy that had a Volvo P1800. We were standing nearby by heard what he had to say, he was genuinely interested in the car and what the owner had to say about the car.

As to the SS featured in the video, it is very well done indeed and nice that the modern running gear is Jaguar. One question I have is what happened to the air cleaners? It’s cool to see the SUs, but I doubt they run the car on the street without some kind of air cleaner. If not an air cleaner, then put little velocity stacks with a screen on the carbs. Looks good and keeps at least the bigger chunks of stuff from getting sucked into the motor.

Respectfully, Car and Driver magazine lists the original Cobra at 4.3 seconds 0-60 mph.

Thanks for the correction.

My Gutenberg replica has the correct number and spacing of rivets....Not all can say that.

Like I said before I just don't get it. Is there anyone in the world that could ride with their eyes closed in a 427 cobra and determine if it was a "real" cobra or a well built replica? I could care less if someone has a real one or replica as long as they are out driving in it and having fun......it is funny to think that a cobra is probably the only car that has been experienced by the mass population in replica form. I've never even seen a real cobra. Maybe we should start comparing this to fake breast and real breast......does it REALLY matter

If they are 50 years apart I would say it does matter.

Jay Leno is so rich that he really hates replicas . He could buy a "real one " if he wanted.
I mean his ultimate car is a Stanley Stanley Steamer ??

Jay loves cars, just like most of us do. We've all said something sometime when it was taken wrong or out of context. I love most all performance, muscle & exotic cars, and even some dogs. If I were properly funded, I'd probably have a thousand cars. As it is, I have over a dozen, and I've commented many times on these and others that just didn't come out right. Shame on me. Cars light my fire, and in no way, shape or form am I one-make-exclusive. Give Jay a break, maybe someday you'll be out driving and he'll stop by you to chat up your car.
