I see what you mean about the confusion. The first two responses are not correct for sealing npt. first, I question the use of npt for automotive brake and fuel systems, however, if you must, all npt threads must be sealed. the sealer itself will tell you what it is compatible with. Teflon tape is compatible with brake fluid and gasoline, but be very careful to not get it in the lines. make sure you have no tape overlapping the fitting threads.
