in fact a shelby 289 fia alubody csx 7000 continuation was officially invited to 74th goodwood members meeting this year, not as a clone of any of the 60th-originals like many kirkhams running at goodwood, but with its own VIN...

My Kirkham has a VIN.

They also allow SPF GT40 replicas/clones too. They're all replicas/clones, Shelby, Superformance and of course Kirkham.

Why? No one wants to blow up their multi-million dollar cars racing anymore, so they let replicas race. The Shelby FIA is a $150,000 car, so the driver/owner won't feel as bad if he or she crashes it.

funny with your VIN ;), but you didn't understand what i tried to explain...

many owners of original cars have an exact clone of their car, they are racing the clone with the same csx 2xxx number as their original have, that is another pair of shoes, for that you're right
in this case this cobra was invited to goodwood as a csx 7xxx, and not as a csx 2xxx substitute

this "$ 150,000" car was for sale asking factor 2,5 in summer

Actually, I did understand. That's why I posted the "" I was kidding around.

As for asking prices, well, you can ask whatever you want for your car. What you get is almost always quite different. Bottom line, alloy Shelby/Kirkham rollers are around $115,000. And small block engines and Toploaders are fairly reasonable, depending on how fast you want to go.

BTW, I'm asking $250,000 for my Kirkham. :JEKYLHYDE**):LOL:

peterpjb 12-13-2016 10:40 AM

sure, you can ask whatever you want, (i was waiting for this comment ;))

but some points are making this car special;

- one of about 20 csx 7000 aluminium
- FIA-HTP papers (very hard to achieve for replicas)
- Goodwood-Invitation (that makes every car more worth in europe)

and btw, i think continuation car ist the better term for this kind of cars, like the cars mentioned in this thread: jaguar xkss, aston db4gt, ac cobra 260 legacy or the lister knobbly...

but the difference with this car are two things:

- FIA-HTP papers (very hard to achieve for replicas)
- Goodwood-Invitation (that makes every car more worth in europe)

It's still a replica, made 50 years later, but it can be raced at Goodwood. Meh, Goodwood means nothing to me. We have the Monterey Historics at Laguna Seca, it's just a week where they race cars around the track. And they have a few car shows, dinners with special guests and rallyes like the Concorso.

Is it worth more than your standard CSX7000, sure, but $200,000+ more? Nope. I assume the next Tom, Dick or Harry can get "papers" for their CSX7000.

i've been to laguna seca and monterey car week this year, that is indeed the most important car show in the world, but goodwood is the most important place for historic racing, and that is exactly the dna of our cars...

I'm not debating which event is more or less important, I really don't care.

But whether it's Goodwood or the Monterey Historics, it's just a committee of humans running it. And these humans have opinions, make decisions, put on their pants one leg at a time and brain-fart just like the rest of us humans. They're just people with cars with papers, they're not curing cancer, advancing research on Alzheimer's disease or even scoring a goal at Old Trafford.

I guess what I'm saying is that they can invite a replica of Herby The Love Bug to race Goodwood and it really doesn't affect my way of thinking.

I just wanted to be clear about my point. Just like you can ask any amount of money for your car that you want, you can also call a car anything you like, such as a "continuation." To me it's just semantics. ;)

peterpjb 12-13-2016 01:37 PM

ok, thanks for explaining your opinion

And the 1966 Mustangs and Shelbys are being built new, under license (by Ford and Shelby).

Brand-New Reproduction Classic Mustang

not every reproduction is a continuation car...
continuations should be made by the original manufacturer to original specifications

You mean like Kirkham builds Cobras for Shelby? Now we're just talking about financial arrangements and paperwork. That's just semantics.

They're all "copies" with significant changes since 1965 +/-.

No, Revology has a license. SPF GT40 have a license from Safir. And SPF builds continuations. Just paperwork, marketing, financial arrangements, lawyers and semantics.

"Continuation" is just another word for copy, clone, reproduction, etc. it's all the same S. The buyers of any "continuation" are just paying premium for name, paperwork, plaque, marketing costs, etc. Whoever actually builds the continuation is meaningless. It's not 1965-1966.

peterpjb 12-17-2016 11:48 AM

continuation car is a term of general linguistic usage, you can call it semantics or anything else, but lets talk about semantics...
in my opinion the continuation cobras should be called "shelby kirkham cobra" as the originals were called "shelby ac cobra"
