Years ago, two cammers I helped work on were NOS crate engines and we did nothing but install them and they worked great.

Then we worked on a couple of "rebuilt" ones and had nothing but troubles.

I guess the story there is that if you're going the cammer route, know who you are dealing with and what his knowledge is in this particular engine.

I see them on Ebay all the time and cringe...

Earlier on in this thread you were seemingly one of few that could do the math (ie: EZ$'s post & calculations) but now, I'm thinking maybe you just got lucky?

Converting 50lbs of fat in to muscle, still leaves you with 50lbs of muscle.

Enjoy...

My Cammer would definitely be very reliable.........nestled between the frame rails of my Kirkham.................sitting in the garage, under a car cover, year round. I think at some point, I'll just move it into the living room, so I can look at it more often.

Hey, I was trying to save you from amputation.

I don't believe there's a 1:1 correlation between converting fat to muscle, but I'm not an expert. In my experience, people will gain muscle, lose fat and lose weight in the process, depending on how much their metabolism has increased due to their exercise regimen.

I say to run whatever engine you want. Original, yes, an original engine. Otherwise, it doesn't matter and should be up to personal preference. My Windsor just bit the dust and I'm going back with a 408.

Brent needs to do his own video!!

How many times did I hear "cheap" in this video?
6-bolt mains? I don't know the engines, so assuming an extended skirt.
This guy is way relaxed. Maybe I just didn't see a bong in the video

Got lost in translation but the video was originally titled "What makes the LS engine so great" even though much of what he was discussing would refer to just about any engine family, IMHO. Lots of good information if you can watch the whole 19 minutes. The part about stroker cranks and piston travel/exposure was especially interesting.

Don't get me wrong. I like the video and actually learned a lot about that side of how things work, or seem to work on the other side.

When I built my first Cobra back in 01, it had a mild 302. Worked like a champ and was always ready to go. Very dependable. But, after 10 years of ownership and bullet proof performance, I sold it. I swore if I ever built another it would have a FE... Fast forward to Oct. 2015, I started my second build and by golly, it has a big old honking 445 FE. Here it is April and I hope to light it off in the next month. I can't wait.

I tend to agree with Dimis, engine choice depends on which replica. Aluminum FE big block for Kirkham, any Ford big block for ERA, 427 or similiar Windsor for Superformance, and whatever you want to run in a FFR (which is why I drive an FFR). Cheers.

The Dodge Viper V10 makes a great choice also.

Ok. I'll listen... How so?

A powerful engine - yes, maybe.
But a good engine in a cobra - uh, I wouldn't have thought so.

I don't see how it would be anything other than a head ache in a cobra. Imagine all that custom work and those custom parts just to get it to fit.

...and then, it's not even a Ford.

Ok ok ok. Sorry, But I couldn't just leave your bait hanging there...
Especially when you tried to be so subtle about it.

The Viper V10 has already been put in a Cobra, I've seen them. And a V10 with all that tire ripping power is always a good choice and that Carroll Shelby was part of the Viper development as sort of a modern day Cobra.

If you want a kit car, build a kit car.

If you want a replica, build a replica.
Bernica and g8rnbft like this.

How about a HotRod that is shaped like a Cobra? With a giant asphalt ripping engine of what ever flavor you like?
