Default How do i rotate shift pattern diagram to correct orientation

SPF with the Tremec 5 speed.
The shift pattern is turned 90 degrees and I'd like to straiten it out.
There are two small holes under the base where the stick screws into the knob, but there doesn't appear to be anything in there to loosen with an allen key.
I'm wondering if its just screwed tightly onto there and I just need to force it back the other way.
If that's the case, what is the best option to allow it to be tight in the correct positon?
Any assistance is appreciated.

Default Shift Knob

Turn the black plastic knob CCW. When you do this, the chrome collar at the bottom of the plastic piece will rotate on some threads and allow you to set the shift pattern in any direction you wish. Jam the two pieces together to tighten (GENTLY!).

How much force is required here? I'm turning pretty hard, to the point where it feels like I could do damage and I don't want to give it much extra.
Do I need a tool?
When you say jam to tighten, are you talking about the plastic and the chrome collar? These squeeze together?

It appears to look like its just screwed on but that the tight position is 90 degrees out off.

The holes are there so you can use a 90 degree circlip tool. Or you can just use some Loctite and hand tighten the knob against the chrome collar.

I had to use one of those cheap rubber strap wrenches the first time. It was TIGHT!

Got this resolved and wanted to wrap up for anybody looking for help.
I wound up using a strap wrench as recommended which opened it up very easily.
The knob is comprised of two parts, a black upper section and a chrome lower section. Both are threaded and screw down the threaded stickshift. You simply turn the black section against the chrome section until its tight in the right orientation. If its not strait, turn the chrome portion down another 1/4 turn or so and keep adjusting.
