They will be glad to take your money - plus a $10,000 market adjustment at our local dealer (but a reg GT350 and not an R).

Cool video - now that I've watched it, that was a whole 1/2 hour show. At the very start I thought the GT350R exhaust note sounded a little ricer compared to the Z28 but then when the test drive started - wholly cow, that thing sound mean. A little surprised the GT won the drag race considering the dyno results and much weaker torque curve - but it did. Very impressive.

I got a laugh out of the presenter's reaction when he mashed the pedal on the Ford at about 6mins in, and then again at about 16:30 when the test driver did it. They both giggled like school girls

I guess the discrepancy in the torque which mostly is below 3.5K rpm is outweighed by the fact in 1/4 thrash the engine wouldn't be in that range? Particularly so, when your engine revs to over 8K Rpm.
Also the GT350R being lighter and having big fat rubber, and arguably lighter wheels probably neutralize the torque difference a little... Seemingly, sum of the parts match better...? I guess it is newer. Or maybe its just a bit of bs, whoops I mean "Marketing" to sell a few...?

Either way it looks nice to me... Not sure if they're brining them over to Aus though.

They are great cars and really do well on the road courses. I wish I could afford one.

I haven't been a big fan of the modern Mustang for many years, but now the car, in GT350R form, is actually becoming something I'd think about buying.

I also see that the Tremec 6-speed comes standard. Hmmm. No Toploader option?

I have never liked mustangs but i love how this car revs. Thats the reason i love motorcycles soo much, redline is so much higher than cars. Im a big Chevy fan but the Camero is a big heavy flying brick and truely is horrible. JMO

Agree with RodKnock. I've been driving both American and German cars for years and was thinking an M4 may be a good next car. It may be a little nicer inside, but the GT350 just speaks to me. I want that car.

After the latter years of the Fox-body platform (1985-1993), the Mustang was just plain ugly to me. At times, like when Steve Saleen dropped a 351W in his SN95 platform cars, I kinda liked those, but certainly not enough to purchase one of them. The new Challenger is attractive, but although I LOVE the 1969 Camaro Z28's, the new modern Camaro is really not an attractive retro mold to me.

But now that 2016 GT350R is kinda cool, but for me, I'd have to evaluate it against a new Porsche, whether it's a Cayman or Boxster or base 911.

I still think rowing through the 4 gears of a Toploader, instead of Tremec's 6-speed, would bring me back to the days of driving around my 1965-1966 GT350 replicas.

OK, I'll stop now.

There are at least two R's on eBay, with prices of $119,000 and $125,000. Well, guys and gals, at that price level, I'm buying something like this:

Same here! Nothing like good ol' American Muscle! Ford is on a roll with the new GT and this car. I think they are going to make a statement and already have with the FGT at Laguna Seca a couple of weeks ago. This car should do the same.

Unfortunately, it doesn't look like Shelby is riding the wave yet. I just checked their stock and it's now at 10 cents!

Geez, and that 1,000 shares I have was my nest egg!

Rodknock, if you are going EU there is a nice wrecked McLaren with 10 minutes on it over there. Yes, 10 minutes. But it doesn't have a toploader so I'm out.

New McLaren wrecked 10 minutes after delivery | Stuff.co.nz

I'll stick with the Fords and can't wait to get a chance to get up and close with that new 350R.

For $100+, no. But there are some dealers in the Midwest that will sell the 350 for MSRP and do a courtesy delivery at a local dealer. With the technology package that comes to $56.

Lippy, I guess the trick is to figure out if they have CA emissions. Already been through that with Ford on a great deal on a truck in Texas, but no CA emissions so no go. I hear the trick is that if you buy out of state and rack up around 8k miles, then you can bring it in to register as a used vehicle.

That is for a GT350, NOT an "R". The R is very low production, however the 2016 standard GT350s all get the oil/trans coolers, magnetic suspension and engine compartment brace as standard.

I did a courtesy delivery of a '99 Durango years ago. The local guy charged me $200 and emissions weren't a problem. It may depend on the car. Still, you can get a 350 (not R) here for about $3k over MSRP, so not awful.

What do the "Porsche purists" say about a metro card and Nissan Leaf?

Nothing like a little misogyny on a Friday afternoon.

I am a Porsche purist (and owner) and we actually say Porsche stopped making cars after they introduced water-cooled engines.

All GT350s are "50 state" emissions so no worries for Cali or the Green states.
