Speaking of having a hard time contacting Brent, I haven't seen a post in awhile from Jamo or Computerworks either. Have any of you?

Are you a shareholder or owner?

YerDugliness 03-08-2017 08:40 AM

I noticed that when I tried to log on to CC yesterday I got a notice that said "Service Unavailable".

Now when I log on I do not get those redirects...and I have logged on many times just to see if they have returned. They have not.

Let's hope yesterday's "unavailable" time was the forum leadership fixing whatever problem there was that caused so many redirects.

Has anyone else had a similar experience?

Cheers!

The downtime yesterday (I saw that too), must have been site patching. Mobile issues seem to be fixed for me too.

I had not seen any redirects yesterday, but seeing your suggestion I just cleared my cookies. I had to login again at which point 2 new tabs opened, one was blank, the second one had a picture of a topless guy and an animated picture of a topless young women shaking her chest left and right. I decided not to post a screen shot. ;)

Jamo 03-09-2017 04:16 AM

Her left and right, or yours?

Does that matter?

From my recollection there was not any up and down or circular movement if such details are relevant to the case.

The guy may have 8 or 10 pack abs.

The fault, dear brutus, does not lie on my end. I will no longer do resets and clears because this has been going on long enough with enough brand new reset devices to know that nothing on the client end is broken or infected. However, the latest round of these is easier to get by. It only goes one level deep so I can just close the spawned window instead of closing firefox completely until the attack window passes.

Nope, just a new McLaren 720S

Hey, look. If you don't want to fix it fine with me.

I also have seen the "service unavailable" and continued redirects with my iPad which is only what I use to login. It would be nice and reassuring to hear this is being looked into?

joyridin' 03-10-2017 05:24 AM

With an Iphone or Ipad, it is almost impossible to hack the Pad or phone. Plus the passwords saved on Apple devices are encrypted, so you cannot see them.

YerDugliness 03-10-2017 06:10 AM

I have noticed something recently that makes me wonder if the redirects are responsible. My email inbox has been filled with "spam"...advertisements from businesses with whom I have never had any prior contact and offering items in which I have no interest...ads for dating sites (Brazilian ladies, Russian ladies, Oriental ladies), ecigs (I'm not a smoker and never have been), mortgage refinancing, diet plans (at 5' 9" I weigh 147# and struggle to maintain that!!!)...40 or more each day.

Is it possible these redirects identify my email address and the entities associated with the redirects are selling it to all these spammers?

Perhaps it is coincidence...I am not very tech savvy...each day I "unsubscribe" from tens of unwanted spam sites to which I have never subscribed, but they always return.

Could the redirects be responsible?

Cheers?....certainly not for the spammers!!!

Dugly

Don't unsubscribe to a non-legitimate business. That will only confirm that your email address is real and they will share it with even more scammers.

YerDugliness 03-10-2017 07:13 AM

Oh....well, Dr. Phil was wrong, then. The law requires the businesses comply with " unsubscribe" requests...but I never thought about them selling my address when I sent the unsub request.

I can delete the unwanted emails daily, but they are back the next day, if not the same day.

There is no hope for us BHOFs who are not tech savvy....

Dugly

You're right, and so was Dr. Phil but laws only apply to honest people. Unsubscribe will absolutely bring even more spam.

The only way I've found to keep it under control is to have two email addresses, one for friends and the other for on-line shopping. The on-line shopping address gets spam much quicker, but I can just delete the account and create a new address for that purpose. The "good" address gets clogged eventually too, and needs to be changed, but at a much slower pace if I avoid using it for on-line purposes.
