Doug, I don't know if you read the description of the engine in the vid, but this is interesting: "... the camshaft was ground with a 113-degree lobe separation angle and 242/248 @ .050-inch-lift duration numbers. Rabotnick was unwilling to disclose lift numbers, but we can say that they are ‘healthy’."

I saw it. I'm going to change out the cam. Brent's going to do a custom grind (we haven't talked about what yet). My Holman Moody "B" cam is in great shape so I may sell it along with the Lemans rods and TRW pistons.

I think that's a good plan. Post the specs when you decide on them.

Humorous. Note that the duration and LSA Barry chose for the cam in that vid are pretty darn close to my 54 year old "K" cam.

The cam in the video is a hydraulic roller.

Yours is a flat tappet.

You are losing duration to lash. The hydraulic roller is not.

I love reading those magazine articles, they act like the lift is some wampuss-cat sky-high number that's very secretive. I'm not a betting man, but I'd say it's around .600".

On a hydraulic roller with an FE, you have to play the numbers game. You can either use an aggressive lobe that will make noise and not make power, or you can use a less aggressive lobe that will make power, will be quiet, but will have a high advertised duration. When you try to run vacuum accessories with a high advertised duration, you have to widen the LSA to get the overlap down.

Your cam is antiquated, Patrick.

Old people like the color beige. When you start picking out and buying beige cars, then you know your life is over.

You will be over 60 when the little one graduates from college. No early retirement in site!

I was 35 when she was born. If she can squeak out at 21-22, I'll still make it under 60. She started kindergarten at 4, so she may make it out of college at 21.

Well I'm 59 now, and my younger Son is 37. It happened so fast, it's a blur. My biggest regret is not taking enough vacations. I worked far too many hours, but had I not, I couldn't have provided what I did and get where I am. Hard to be sorry for that. So when she is older take plenty of vacations and short trips to neat places.

That's beefier than what you've got now. The "advertised duration" of your current cam is 324 degrees (IIRC), but they measure it from a different spot, so you really can't compare it easily. The .050" numbers are significantly harrier than 245/245 106 LSA and .500" lift after your lash is taken out.

And this one gets lashed tighter at .015.

The goal was a similar lope at idel on the new motor to what I have now, something that will be happy on the street and also happy autocrossing in 2nd gear with plenty of low RPM torque.
