Doug, I don't know if you read the description of the engine in the vid, but this is interesting: "... the camshaft was ground with a 113-degree lobe separation angle and 242/248 @ .050-inch-lift duration numbers. Rabotnick was unwilling to disclose lift numbers, but we can say that they are ‘healthy’."

I am running a 482 but wanted the Lemans look. I bought Holley 850 and sent it to Joe Bunetic to have the Lemans bowls added and to de-choke, de-horn and replate the finished carb after tuning it to my displacement, compression ratio and cam specs. Barry R. used the carb to dyno my engine. Looks the part but gives you all the gas you need:

Nice. That's a mech secondary carb, right? I will say that the Lemans bowls are cool, but are a bit of a PITA. I think I will probably forgo them this time around.
I'm thinking of going with a Holley HP 850 or 950 carb. They have the classic look, but no air horn. I liked my vacuum secondaries, but they only offer mech secondaries in larger than 750 CFM unless. There is a classic series 850 that has vacuum secondaries, but also has the air horn, which I'd rather lose.
I know that Brent loves the Quickfuels, but I want the old school gold dichromate finish.

Uh, is your carb "buried" in a turkey pan with a Stellings air cleaner? If so, who cares what your carb looks like? Oops, I forgot, you have a CSX with a vintage sideoiler. My bad.

It is mechanical, which I know is not correct, but I didn't have a lot of options with the larger carbs.

I watched that vid. Man, that is a big-ass looking carb compared to my Holley 4160.

You will be over 60 when the little one graduates from college. No early retirement in site!

I was 35 when she was born. If she can squeak out at 21-22, I'll still make it under 60. She started kindergarten at 4, so she may make it out of college at 21.

Well I'm 59 now, and my younger Son is 37. It happened so fast, it's a blur. My biggest regret is not taking enough vacations. I worked far too many hours, but had I not, I couldn't have provided what I did and get where I am. Hard to be sorry for that. So when she is older take plenty of vacations and short trips to neat places.

Old people like the color beige. When you start picking out and buying beige cars, then you know your life is over.

The goal was a similar lope at idel on the new motor to what I have now, something that will be happy on the street and also happy autocrossing in 2nd gear with plenty of low RPM torque.

By the way, now that I've had to rebuild this engine, I'm going to be selling a bunch of stuff that I can't reuse and don't want to just leave sitting around on garage shelves. Some of which are pretty hard to find. Thought I'd offer it here first:
- Nicely refurbished original Holley 3255-1 with Lemans bowls (pics in my gallery). Was refurbished by Pony Carburetors a few years ago.
- Holman Moody solid flat tappet "B" cam. Good condition with 6k miles on it.
- Set of Lemans rods and TRW pistons (standard 427 bore). Good condition with 6k miles on them (were NOS when they went into the car).
I'll come up with prices if anyone's interested.
