Default K&N for Stellings Hellings air filter

Well I was looking for a KN filter for my SH housing and they don't have one to fit.. I thought I saw some of you guys running a K&N..The standard foam is 8.250 outside dia and 6 5/8 ID, 1.5 tall. I could go at least 2" tall
What do you guys suggest for better breathing with this little unit

Go to page four of this thread for my installation of the KN Xtreme with a larger KN filter below. It's a significant improvement over the original SH that was on there before. Be advised that if you have vacuum secondaries you're going to have to lighten your spring after making this upgrade as the increased volume of air reduces the velocity.

I like the look of the Stellings Hellings so with a little research found the filter perfect for mine K&N part# NO-0100 it happens to fit a Norton motorcycle. It fits the housing perfectly (without the stainless mess) and more than doubles the height.

I run this one: K&N E-2570. I can fit it inside the Stellings mesh screen and you can't really tell.

That K&N X-Stream top really makes quite a difference in air flow. BUTTTTTT, if you read the reviews from some of the other forums, there are tons of complaints from guys that say their engines were slower after putting it on. This is because the increased volume of air flow reduces the velocity of the air that is going by the little hole that feeds to the vacuum secondary canister. After putting my new fatter filter and X-Stream top on, my secondaries didn't open at all. Tweaking the vacuum secondary spring or, in my case, installing an adjustable vacuum secondary canister, fixed it right up. The K&N instructions really ought to red flag this for guys that don't have the time, or patience, to think it all through.

I have K&N filters in my SH air cleaners. I think mine are about 1/8 inch taller than the stock ones but from memory they also carry a taller one if you have the room. I think they are for a Yugo. I can look up the number when I get home.

Part numbers and some dimensions are discussed in this thread for the K&N filters that fit the SH air cleaners.

K&N part number for Stellings
