In my opinion, this kit is worth taking on if you like fabricating and projects like I do. The aluminum panels aren't difficult to make if you have a sheet metal brake. Just make up patterns, cut the pieces slightly oversize, bend where necessary, and cut to fit. This was one of the most enjoyable parts of my scratch build and really makes the kit look like a real car once you finish.

Make a low ball offer in the $4K-$5K range and see what he says. For that money you have a good body shape IMO, wheels, lots of mechanical parts you won't have to source, and just a few items to source like the radiator, fuel tank and hangers, fuel lines, brakes, etc..... Get a cheap Harbor Freight bead blaster and clean up the rust on the items that need it and repaint them. I picked up a couple different types of metal brakes to do my aluminum panels and they worked great for my project.

Good luck.

I agree, that could be an awesome car with the right attention, lots of hours but a fabricators dream. It's also really important to set a budget then fit the project into that budget, I really don't believe there is such a thing as low-cost Cobra build. If I picked up the car for 5K, I could see spending another 15k to get it presentable so may be a 25k budget. Very tempting!!
