If needed you can contact Sunbeam Specialties and get one of their reproduction boots for the Sunbeam Tiger shifter. It's made of thinner, more compliant rubber and doesn't put as much pressure on the shifter that can cause it to kick out of gear. Not expensive either - about $23. It was much more compliant than the one that came with my ERA.

Sunbeam Specialties - Number 1 Source for Rootes Sunbeam Alpine-Tiger Parts. We carry the most extensive range of mechanical, hydraulic, upholstery and restoration parts available.

Got the ebay unit and the four holes are there (I was worried drilling them would create a tear point). They are just covered with a thin layer or rubber that you pierce.
