Default It runs. Oh lordy it runs!

Started the cobra today. Took a few minutes for gas to get to the Weber’s. Had two small gas leaks. One on the intake manifold and the other with the fuel line under the car. Fixed.

Car ran rough. After it cooled down discovered all 4 plugs on the driver side very loose. Likely from being removed by the header fabricator. All tight, plug wiring verified. Still need to set timing. Saturday.

Oil pressure solid at 50psi

Engine continued to run after turning key off. Will cal wiring harness manufacturer tomorrow and discuss problem.

Friend coming over Saturday to help set timing and synch carbs

Not too shabby for the initial start.

Bill,

So happy for you! It has been a long road, but you stuck it through and have reaped your reward. Cannot wait to hear it roar down the road.

Congratulations!

Now it won't be long until Bill can start having fun after all of the work he has put in. That is one of the better built Cobras I have seen.

Ron

Some good news to report. I called the Painless Tech-Support line this morning told them my situation. They said it’s a common problem when you don’t have a charge light in the exciter circuit. They suggested that I buy a high current diode, gave me the part number and where I can get it, and to install it in the 914 wire circuit. This should fix my problem

I fixed the issue with the plugs. NGK recommended a different plug with a non extended tip. This fixed my interference problem between the piston dome and spark plug electrode. My timing was also way off: 30 deg initial. Used a timing light and set it at 13 BTDC. Then went through the Weber procedure to set the idle mixture screws. With everything done, I fired her up and adjusted idle. Still need to synchronize the Caribs. Here’s a video

I still need to add the feedback diode into the exciter circuit.

UPDATE: diode added. Car now shuts down as it should

Sounds great Bill. You looked pretty happy in that video. Nice job.

My excitement was short lived. It quit running. Won’t start. I’ve given up, and covered the car. I wish someone would just buy it and take it away

Don’t give up! Sounded like it was running good. Probably just a carb issue.
