I've never understood why someone would paint a beautiful aluminum car. Might put a wrap on it, that could be fairly easily removed, but the idea of a nice brushed aluminum body is very unique.
Just my 2 1/2¢ worth.

I can think of a few reasons:
1. Not everybody wants the chrome bling look
2. It's difficult to maintain
3. Original cars were PAINTED
4. Yours doesn't have to look like most everybody else's
6. You have a favorite color you want to express yourself with
Fiberglass car owners can also choose to have a chrome/polished aluminum wrap if that's the look they are after. Some of them can turn out very well depending on the installer. Also, no dents (:

1. True.
2. Just as difficult as maintaining a painted car. Clean and polish.
3. Replicas are not originals. So, if you think paint is going to fool anyone, more so than bare aluminum, then I have a bridge to sell you.
4. You have this one backwards, very few replicas, er, just Kirkhams, are bare aluminum. If you want to blend into the "crowd," with the tens of thousands of ERA's, SPF's, FFR's, etc. then get it painted.
5. What happened to #5?
6. I express (and impress) myself with bare aluminum.
Aluminum (metal) dents, but fiberglass, expands, cracks and, if hit, breaks into straw.

All of the originals were aluminum and all were painted.

I like painted Cobras so I don't get mistaken for an Airstream trailer.
