Can we take the cap off and look at the advance mechanism?

9 out of 10, this due to dry advance weight pins.

The reluctor wheel becomes magnetised, and any amount of ferrous dust sticks to the wheel.

What’s typically used to lubricate them? Aren’t they designed to slide on those nylon buttons that snap in underneath each?

The weight pivot PINS are dry, they need some grease.
The button slides are delrin etc and don't need anything.
