Did you drill a hole in the rollbar to run the wire?

Yes, right by the LED strip, then through the roll bar and out the mounting socket.

Somebody's bound to say that will weaken the roll bar. Just tell 'em that the roll bar will still provide you with a real nice upgrade... from a closed-casket to an open-casket funeral.

That was on a West Coast Cobra, and while I didn't put a micrometer on it I swear the tubing on the roll bar wasn't much thicker than exhaust tubing. More decorative than functional, I'm afraid.

I'll let you know how mine is, feels real solid. Mine is also from the early 80's, when stuff was built to last

Some roll bars are stronger than others.

Gee, that's a big hit, sideways into?
Took the rear wheel off as well.
Mechanical failure first, causing an accident?

Ouch!
Looks to me like he got hit from the right and was moving when it happened. This would make the damage worse as it came in while the cobra was moving forward.
Makes me like my roll bar mount a lot.
Oh and as far as weakening it the hole would have to be fairly big. If 1/8" no measurable effect, if a half inch, probably measurable IMHO.
