Nice touch with the Washburn Corvette in the racing scene. I hope like hell that if they filmed on “modernized” tracks they found a way to digitally eliminate the non-period stuff like acres of painted concrete runoff, fancy pit areas with suites above the pit garages, etc. I know I’m too picky, but stuff like that makes me nuts. It’s like watching a WWII movie and seeing a guided-missile frigate in the background.

nice; a 2nd trailer! Damon is so wrong for Shelby though...

I had the same thought, but from an enthusiast standpoint I think it’s cool that the star power may introduce people to the story who would otherwise never see a film like this.

It'll be a stretch for Matt to play Shel.

So far from the trailers he seems to be holding his own portraying him. Now the height we all know is way off as is the “swagger” but let’s give him a chance. I do agree the “star” power of these two actors will bring attention to these 2 great men and bring them to the attention of a whole new generation.

Plus Superformance will definitely sell so more cars. I watched a quick 7 minute interview where Matt Damon was describing driving the replica Cobras and how fast they were.

This interview? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_uwkU6uNH1c

Damon's remarks about Cobras start @ 4:50 of video

Interview with Director James Mangold about how they shot 'Le Mans' race. Skip the first three minutes as there are problems with the audio. Discussion about shooting the Le Mans race scenes starts about 10:00.

"There are true-story movies that are bland, mildly entertaining, and devoid of any striking characteristics beyond maybe a “transformative” lead performance. Then there are movies like Ford v Ferrari. Director James Mangold’s chronicle of Ford’s bid to build a car worthy of beating Ferrari at the 1966 24 Hours of Le Mans race is largely formulaic and predictable to be sure, but it’s executed so sharply, with such artistic confidence and mastery, that it rises above its familiar structure to become a rousing, wildly compelling, and genuinely great racing movie that harkens back to the good old days when major movie studios spent serious money on stories about human beings."

"This isn’t a story that’s meant to be told, make the Oscar rounds, and then fade into oblivion. The determination of spirit behind Shelby and Miles, and the perseverance they displayed in this particular period of their lives, is still inspiring all these years later. And Mangold ensures their story stands the test of time by wrapping it in an airtight, insanely rewatchable package. Indeed, Ford v Ferrari feels destined to become one of those movies you just have to watch if you stumble upon it on cable. It’s both that good and that entertaining."

He said he finished initially with a 3.5 hour version.... hope that finds its way out as a Director’s Cut at some point.

No kidding!

The P3s looked a little “small” (i.e. undersized) to me, but admittedly they’re on screen for fractions of seconds in the trailers. But at least they went through the effort. It’s like watching the McQueen “Le Mans” movie—some of the 917s (I think it's the 917s) were built on, I believe, Lola T70 chassis, and the track is off. Bugs my detail-obsessed brain every time, but then I think about how car nuts are lucky to have any films that try to accurately capture our love of racing. I mean, where would we be without “Days of Thunder” or “Talladega Nights”, LOL!

Yeah, but does that really matter? Christian Bale doesn't look at all like Ken Miles, but who cares? The two trailers for the movie look good.

I'll be there to see it

Cheers,
Glen

fastd, would you prefer Vin Diesel? ha

I, too, hope the star power names bring people out to see the movie. At least that'll bring some small glimpse of what went on.

Jack Reacher=Tom Cruise? come on.

BTW, I'm certainly looking forward to the release and am hoping a bunch of the PHX area Cobras will get out to see it at the only remaining drive in theater in the state.

Wow, a drive-in...I lived three miles from one in high school and that was usually where we ended up most weekends during the summer. Kids now don't know what they're missing although I'm thankful my daughters didn't live that life, LOL. What a perfect venue to see this film.

I noted in the trailers that Bale does this thing with his lower jaw--kind of pulling it in--that is vaguely reminiscent of Miles. Gives me some hope that maybe he studied old footage of him in interviews. I was trying to think of who could play him, visually, last night, and ended up kind of stumped. Adrien Brody has the nose and the thin face--he's about the closest I could think of.

Mathew McConaughey would have been much better imo.

McConaughay is always an excellent choice. He could do Shel or Miles.
