IMHO CSX2000 Style and similar are not attractive cars. So what if it cost 14 million dollars.

I readily agree that CSX2000 isn’t as attractive as later small-block cars or the CSX3000 cars. It has those funny-looking AC Ace-type bumperettes that have the appearance of chromed molars, and the roll bar is a one-off that’s both lower and wider than later cars’. The painted wires don’t exactly pop, and on the whole it looks more like an Ace than a Cobra. To me the historical significance is what makes it appealing, but if I had a collection it would likely be the car I drove least.

Original Cobras
Where should I start as to what I don't like about the original car. I don't like the color, wire wheels, ride height, over sized bumperettes, gas filler, fender shape both front an rear, roll bar and the overall shape of the way the body is curved.
In all seriousness, I am old enough to remember when the Cobras were introduced. No one wanted them. They looked too much like a cheap little European Sports car and weren't very practical. Something akin to the MG, Triumph and Austin Healy. We considered them a West Coast novelty item that was built strictly to be a road race car and of course it was a successful one but that was meaningless to us. It was the muscle car era and the Cobras didn't appeal. Probably why so few of them were produced. My car looks nothing like the original and I am thankful for that because if it did, I would never have given it a second look. I am enjoying all the little refinements and design changes both mechanically and aesthetically that make my car what is in relation to the originals. Fred |

Me too. They’re supposed to be a great choice for a street/track day tire. Lots more grip than the usual BFG T/As or Cooper Cobras. They look the part from a vintage standpoint as well.

I’ve got Coopers on my car (for now) and I’m pretty positive those are Avons. Here’s another pic of the front tire from the same car. Aside from the tread pattern looking like the CR6ZZ, I’m pretty sure it says “Avon” at the 8 o’clock position on the sidewall.

Actually, MkIV, I think we’re both right...the tires in the first pic are different than those in the second. Must have been taken at two different times in the life of the car. I think you’re correct that the first pic shows Coopers, and I’m pretty sure the second shows Avons.

As said - to each his own. CSX2000 does look a bit shabby, but that is not representative of the majority of the 2000 series cars.
As for the BDR being an improvement, the bulbous shape and cartoonish (to me) look are deal breakers and I would not own one. Once again, there are many who disagree with me and love the look of their BDR's - I totally get that and its not a disagreement, just differing tastes. I actually do like some of the interior details, and the modern day performance and drivability of the supercharged Coyote in some of them I find interesting. |
