Wait, what? You can't be "talking" about Kirkham's without engines and transmissions? You must mean newly sorted and running Kirkham's?

Last I recall, a Kirkham roller, no engine and trans, advertised on their website was $99,000.

Nope, that ship has sailed. Kirkham rollers with no engine and transmission $200k plus. And $25k more if you want polished or brushed.

Fundamental change in business model.

You won’t find any pricing on the website either.

Any idea on when prices changed so dramatically? Now I’m too nervous to ever drive my car again. 😀

100K for your dust covered, neglected, unloved Kirkham, can wire the funds tomorrow. Throw in a certain LB "C" and I'll up it 15K for the pair.

Uh, the OP is advertising his Kirkham for $155,000. And mine has lower miles. A little margin in there for you and you already have a BIG stable.

Apologies to Ted, I didn't mean to derail his thread. I've just been out of the loop on this site, and Cobra, specifically, Kirkham prices. I'm genuinely surprised.

So, what does it cost these companies to build these cars? Kirkham, Backdraft, Shelby? What is the profit margin?

Does it matter? They need enough profit to remain in operation and invest in their businesses. Pricing will be what the market will bear. I certainly don't begrudge Kirkham, Shelby, or anyone else the profit they make.

Last I remember, they're private companies, but for Shelby, which is a thinly traded public company. Shelby does have a positive gross profit, but negative EBITDA.

The replica Cobra business charges what the market can bear. Welcome to the free market economy.

Yes, Kirkham prices were once easily found on their website. Alas, they no longer provide that information. I follow David Kirkham on FB and I know he has been lamenting the various supply chain issues for some time now. Much of the parts and pieces Kirkham once purchased they no longer buy from suppliers, manufacturing more and more components 'in house'. They've invested in 5-axis CNC mills, heat treating, etc., but even that's been increasingly a problem due to raw materials delays and shortages.

I suspect a good portion of the price increases is due to the above plus, of course, their reputation as the premier manufacturer of replica Cobras has no doubt allowed them to price accordingly.
MOTORHEAD and RodKnock like this.
