Some years ago I faced the same challenge.

I made my own filters from some SS screening from Mcmaster Carr, two Summit/Speedway funnel air cleaners (cut up for parts) and some 1/4" high flow racing air filter foam from Pegasus Racing.

As close to 100% air flow as you are going to get.

Here are a couple of pics. Look for my old posts with more pics or I could e-mail you the pics and info.

Cheers
Greg

That looks as though they work. The foam that is in my trimmed down S&H air cleaners I've got are a fine green foam that started as flat foam material and was cut into a long strip and butt glued to form a circle, and I'm sure filtering out everything including a lot of the air I want to, get through. Your tops are a great touch. So I see an inner and outer rings forming the sides and probably two circles with foam in-between. Where did you source the outer top rings from? The foam material you used is like the green foam that my car came with , but was replaced . I haven't bought from McMaster Carr before . How much stuff did you need to purchase?

I like your two air cleaner approach. But again, with the intake manifold that I have, anything higher has to come through the hood. The SC scoop does not work as intended. It is mostly nostalgic. Cutting any more hood material from under the scoop will dump weather (bad) on the distributor. I wish I had seen this twenty-two years ago. I'd like the information.

How tall are those air cleaner elements?

With my intake, I only have room for 1 1/2" or less under my hood. Your fabricated air filters are sharp, but alas, still too tall to fit. Any way I turn I need to come up through my hood line. So I bought a Blue Thunder 4" tall oval air cleaner element. That and the "Cobra" oval dual four air cleaner look fantastic. The top and bottom extends a little outside the element Top is 10-1/4 wide and 21 -1/4 long. Laying a straight object (a level) on top of the air cleaner top, extended over the body just beyond the hood rear edge ,It's 4""from the bottom of the straight object and down to the body in front of the windshield. I didn't expect it to be so high.
