Things seem a little better. Haven't had a long pause or timeout since yesterday but still get the error on post (but post still happens).

Maybe Bill used the Bat-Signal, which first made its appearance in Detective Comics #60.;)

Late yesterday afternoon it started misbehaving again. I gave up opening this topic after about 5 minutes. Just sat there, no timeout, no error...

This morning it took over a minute but did happen.

Edit: This post stalled for the two minute warning but did get posted. Note edits take zero time to open but 30-60 secs to save.

I've given up on a cure, but I would like to hear a definitive diagnosis... even if it's terminal. I think the truth is that Brent doesn't know how to fix it and just can't come out and say it.

The forum has been totally unreachable most of the past week (maybe 2, it's off so much more than on that it's hard to remember exactly when). After the last hard outage it did come back and was fairly crisp but slowly degraded with the database errors, errors after posting that resulted in many double posts, etc. Then it started with "site unreachable" errors. That's the way it was for the past week.

Right now New Posts search found two new topics and the topics opened quickly. Finding this topic in my "all posts" lists was also quick.

Like always, it comes and then slowly (but more quickly as time goes on) eats itself.

(Edit: Posting this did happen without delays but it got the memory allocation failure after the post was successfully made.)

I finally managed to get on so I will see if I get that error after submitting this post. I have gotten it for the past month on every post but at least the post went in.

Yep, I got this error but the post went in. Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 134217728 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 19388328 bytes) in F:\Inetpub\wwwroot\clubcobra\forums\network\functi ons_network.php on

Yes, that is what has been happening. The error happens after the post is made on the way back to display the post in the thread. It happens to me every time now. But it only happens on new posts (or replies), not on edits to an existing post like this one.

This is the cause of most duplicate posts these days, but mostly from newbies. It seems that the regulars have figured it out.

OK, that is exactly what happens to me and the edit or quotes go right in.

Clicking of the website link feels like pulling the handle on a slot machine. Sometimes I win and get right in, but most of the time I get nothing and after 5-10 seconds I move on and click something else.

Tommy, you're not alone, "Roll of the Dice" ;)

Well I couldn't get on at all when I first tried this morning so I waited a while and tried again and it let me on. It is kind of slow though as I wasn't sure it was going to open this thread.

No joy on the 15th! Got on at 3:45 Mountain Time 16th, pretty fast. I think it is all in how you hold your tongue? Cheers, Dennis

For whatever it's worth, I reached out to Brent to see if he's open to the idea of someone else taking over the day to day operations of running ClubCobra.com. I have a server with a few other automotive forums that I own and operate and I'd be happy to take on this forum and work on bringing it into the modern era of forum architecture. It looks like the members might appreciate it.

With the ancient software that's being run here, and likely the old hardware and obsolete operating system, this forum is one good crash away from being unrecoverable. I've seen it happen.

The same offer has been made many times. And we're still here.

Virtually all of the car forums I frequent these days are on only slightly newer software. Software doesn't get old and wear out. Darabase errors are not caused by slow hardware. The software and hardware are adequate for the loads this forum gets. Every one of these outages is preceded by a flurry of database related errors. Moving to more expensive software and hardware won't fix a corrupted database.

Things get real bad and then some magic happens and are ok for a few weeks or months then the errors and hangs and timeouts start again. It would be interesting to know what is done to put the patient into momentary remission. The response time was quite crisp after it came back until the database errors started again a week or so ago and then off the air completely for a week... back again then off again. And the long pause and database error after making a post is still present not that it ever went away...
