No matter how much you put in it unless it is built by one of a few well known Cobra builders it will not fetch anywhere close to what one that is built by one of them. Glass or alloy. Reputation is a big factor.

So unless you're into it for the thrill of the fabrication, don't expect that down the line you'll fund your 401K.

Good points to think about.

No matter which boby I would use my chassis will be the same and will probably be a scratchbuilt from Chuck's drawings.

I have Mr Bruce option at $7500 with fast delivery and the coachbuilder at $30k for next January. Will the alloy worth $22,500 more when built? Yes I'm sure. More work yes but my labour is free.

My options on the frames are small. I want a ROUND tube frame for the look. So 2 options that I know.
Superformance/ShelbyCSX or Factory Five.
On a FFR I would have to modify it because I ABSOLUTELY want front leaf spring. I want the LOOK to be correct in all aspect and when you open the hood this is obvious. It is for ME.
Frame alone from FFR is $7500. Will any of my body options fit right on it ? NO, more mods !
Rear suspension I can live with it.

Buying a complete running 15 years old(canada rule) is very hard. Other than a new from HILLBANK at $135k that is STILL not exactly as I want it is not an option FOR NOW and NOT LEGAL to import.
The ONLY other car I saw for sale that I would buy is the red JCF owned by one of the member here.

That explain all my choices and options that motivate my decisions.

Hi, thanks for chiming in and give your opinion.


Things to think about!

Here is an explanation for my decisions
What I want is a real 289 Cobra but I can't affort it.
So the closest possible kit or replica is my option.
kits are actually in a 2 years waiting list.
Looked at EVERYTHING that is for sale.
Because I'm in Canada my choice is also limited because of the 15 years rule.
The ONLY car that I would buy is the red JCF for sale by one of the member here and offered on some website. And it will also need a lot of mods to be like I want it.
If I go the option of a complete running car NOW I have to sell one of mine to get the all founds, keep in mind I have to multiply by 1.52 the buying price to bring it to Canada.


So if I want to start soon I have a few options.
First I want a round tube frame for the look. The only one I know available frame alone and confirmed is from Factory Five at $7500.
I also absolutely want front leaf spring for the look. So I will have to modify it anyway.
And will my body fit on ? I don't think so ! More mods !

I came to a conclusion that a frame from scratch was the most logical choice. I can make the ladder and suspension first and the skeleton later when I get the body to fit it perfect. In the meanwhile I can get my powertrain ready and chase parts.

For the body I now have two choices. Mr Bruce at $7500 fairly soon and the coachbuilder at $30K for aluminum nest January.
Is the $22,500 difference worth it at the end ? Yes I'm sure. And it will also please ME more. I know it's all in my head.

Like I said before I have the skills and knowledge to do it and and I do my homeworks to be ready.
There are some specific parts I'm a little nervous about but I'm confident there will be solutions.

If I start the project I will need A LOT OF HELP from you guys here to source some of the parts.

You didn't state that you're in Canada. Very obviously your choices for a car are much more restricted. Please update your profile.

Many of the scratch builds are in Canada and Australia for the reasons you stated.

30K for an alloy body materials and labor seems like a gift. Hope it works out.

What is your builders' source for molds/bucks??? Somebody here just bought a set (turns out from Canada). Maybe you could arrange to "lease" them...

I am totally aware of the task it is to built such a project but also what it would be at the end.

Did you Build a Apache Helicopter or one of them Magnum PI style Heli?

With this, everything is precisely defined, Alu-Body, round tubes, width of tires, everything, when your choice is already generator instead of alternator, you can maybe decide to build a 260 Cobra, no matter for the coach builder,
in either way there are not many variations possible and the only decision left for you is the color of the paint, the color of the interior and the question if white wall tires or not....

@Godabitbi You mentioned a JCF narrow fendered 289, which club member were you talking about?? I had a 289 street back in 2020-21, JCF, 306 cu in. C-4 auto, red with white stripes, single chrome roll bar, bolt on wire wheels.
There was one last year for sale from Ore. that was sold to a dealer in GA. I knew the org. owner & his car, also red, 289, with a 4-speed, is that the car you mean? Cheers Tom.
