Just an observation...
Did anyone else notice how quickly the "quintessential Corvette"a 1967 red coupe was brought up on the block and how quickly it was removed? The announcers talked it up like crazy and then it was gone. On a car like that they usually work the hell out of it and try to drive the price... The hammer came down with little effort and at a comparatively low price... Curious as to who bought that car and if it was a payback for something...

I only started to get "Speed" a few months ago so this was the first B-J auction I have seen. I couldn't believe how poorly informed the announcers were. Granted they cannot be experts on each and every car that comes on the block but you would think that they would have some idea of what it is they are looking at.

I also found it very strange how they would "work" the price for some cars while they would simply just give up on others with virtually no effort. I also found it very strange just how much some people are willing to pay for a car that was owned by a celebrity. $137,000 for a yellow Cuda or Challenger or whatever it was??????? because Don Johnson is the seller?????

As far as "other" Cobras being Tupper Ware or whatever, who cares? I started to get tired of this REAL versus replica arguement some time ago. I am very happy when I am out there driving my FPSB (as they are referred to at another Cobra site).

Generally I stay clear of these kind of debates about replica verses real but this time I feel there is one missing detail. In 1986 when I started building my Fakey doo I had no other choice other than to purchase the real deal. That was not possible at the time as they were still quite expensive and just beyond my reach. I never once thought of making it a copy of the real Cobra. I wanted a Hot Rod with that body. That's what I got. I love it.
CS soon after I completed my car started making noises about starting his own replica company. One of his famous comments was " they will be scratching their asses when they see how cheap we can sell them for".. Well I was pretty exited to say the least cause I thought there was a chance that I could buy one of his cars. When he finally did make the reproduction Cobras they were just way beyond the average replica buyers price range.
Needless to say I was scratchin" my ass alright wondering what happened to cheap.
So the point of all this rambling is that if repicas had not been produced SAI would today be nothing more than a foot note in history. I think a lot of the replica entusiasts hold some resentment for not getting credit for carrying the flag for CS. He is what he is today only because of guys like Arntz, Butler and several of the other replica makers....
CS had no interest in these cars what so ever until he saw that they were becoming more popular. Ahaaa! A chance to make a buck. So here we are today at each other over silly differences.
The best thing about this is we all love the real deal and we
all buy what we can afford to get that special feeling you only get in that car regardless of it's origin.
Please understand that I am very happy for all of you that own a real reproduction Shelby. They are wonderfully built cars with the finest components. I never grow tired of looking at them. But as CS says ....Lets give credit where credit is due. (paraphrase) The replica owners and manufacturers got SAI back on the map. So a little acknowledgment to that fact wouldn't hurt.

Bill: To answer your question we must assume some CSX owners feel they are above others by virtue of their car. You obviously feel they do based on whatever.

I know I don't feel that way. Other CSX owners I know don't either. Can't speak for all of them though. No problem there. Right?

I think the problem is in many cases some misconception by those who don't have CSX's that CSX owners merely stating their cars are "Cobras" means they are saying "mine is better than theirs" Thats their hang up.

In fact its owners of non CSX that make multiple arguments why their cars are better than CSXs- stronger chasis, better suspension, yaddy yaddy yaddy....Thats seems to be accepted.

Would they be as upset if the CSX was an original and the owner said its a Cobra? Why is it different that its not an original but a new CSX?

Does the fact that its a Cobra make it better? Does the fact a CSX owners says its a Cobra mean he is saying "mine is better than yours"? No. I don't think so. I thnk the answer is in the fact that those that feel it means "mine is better than yours" are usually the most vocal in arguing against the new CSX being acknowledged as a Cobra. Why. Sour grapes maybe? Yeah. I think so.

If the guys who own Cobras made by Shelby in the 60's won't let you park next to them and get a picture taken, I want you to know you can park next to my Superformance anytime to have as many pictures taken as you want.

I don't care what anybody calls it (my car). I just am pissed that CS attacks the replica industry, when (as Evan points out too often) they do not even make the same car. I would rather marvel at the SAI cars, than have them remind me of the guy that built them.

I am glad somebody started a thread about those baboons! I was shocked by the number of errors they made. Guess I just know the American iron better then they do. If they would have just opened there eyes sometimes then they would have known the answer to some of their confusion.

I have never watched the auction before. But I watched nine hours of it. Couldn't take my eyes off of it. Would like to go! Mistakes and all. Great car 'show' and the excitement of the sale, the human drama!

I took offense when they refered to the Replica market as 'Tupperware'. But I was REAL proud to see the continuation car take top dollar so far in the auction. Not to mention the other Shelby's. Loved the Cobra 'disco ball' too. Very cool. I guess I shouldn't be so upset, Tupperware does make a fine product!

Knock-off, OK. Replica, cool. Kit Car, mensa, mensa (only because the general public thinks that it was slapped on a VW or some thing, so depends on the source and context). But Tupperware! I hate this whole real, original, mines better, must be this way period, snobs period, run and cover your badges crap.

We are a bunch of certifiable car nuts who love the Cobra and will do what we can to get a piece of the whole Cobra lore. Every time I turn the key, I will thank the maker for the builders of Tupperware. :LOL: :LOL: :LOL:
