New name for Replicas by Barrett Jackson
I can't believe you guys missed it when the Barrett Jackson Announcer referred to " All those other knock off Cobras" as TUPPER WEAR CARS. I got a good laugh out of that one. Why not call them RUBBER MADE. I think I'll take a little ride to Scottsdale today and check out the action. Maybe even promote the sales of TUPPER WEAR.

Yeah,,,,, last year I think the term was- "fakey doo" or "fakey poo"
cobras.
It would be great if the auction was just covered with NO commentary at all, since it is just 99 percent b/s.
I've watched it every year since they started showing it on speed vision,,,and find myself thinking "less" of the comentators every year.
Pete Brock seems to be the only one who usually has a clue, & sometimes tries to diplomatically correct the others "goofy comments".
If I ever get the chance to meet & talk with "DeCadenet", I think I'll ask him what he thinks is the true enthusiast who deserves respect.......
A: the fellow who dreams of owning a legendary car he saw in his childhood, reads everything he can get his hands on about the car, spends hours of time doing research, buys components to build his personal version of that car, and actually DRIVES, YES DRIVES it for the pleasure it brings him and maybe even DRIVES it on a TRACK.
.....or
B: some actor/stockbroker/ie guy with a fat wallet, who writes a check to prove how big his schlong is, then trailers the car to his climate controlled garage, where he can post a little sign about how "fast" and "powerful" it is.
The REAL ENTHUSIAST , is the guy who has the gnads to drive the car, eat a whopper in it, do a burnout in it, hit some cones at an autocross in it, get caught in the rain in it, and FART in it too!
I'd rather be a REAL enthusiast in a fakey doo car,,,, than a fakey doo enthusiast in a real car any day!

JW,
You know that replica Cobras are at the bottom of the ladder when it comes to collectable cars.
Only Cobra nuts will pay such high prices for non original cars.
That guy who bought the Continuation Cobra will probably be able to sell it for the same price as a Series 4000 in a year or so.
The 289 street car was the best buy there.

I could not believe that 'continuation car' brought that much. The buyer must be a real dope. Continuation car my foot! Sure, Shelby had all these parts just sitting around and one day he got the idea "Let's put it all together!" Gimme a break!
This goes beyond real/original. I bet it was a Kirkham body.
Nice GT 40's though,

Cranky,
I agree with you completely about the 289 car being the best buy there. I was wishing I could buy it as I have always wanted one of the 289s. I felt the guy got a good buy on that one.

Hate to break any ones heart, ,but we all got nothing more than STREETRODS that happen to look like Cobras .unless you are one of the 1000 or so folks that have a car built by Shelby American between 1963-1967. no amout of cryin', whinnin' , splitting words, smashing you head against the ground, $pending zillion$ of dollars trying to make it "correct", built by the best fabricators, nicest guys, spinnin' around on the ground like Curly, Yep ,Tupperware, Beercan ,what ever, ALL wanna be's.

You have to take it from whence it comes.
These guys are trying to sell whats on the block. Those guys are salesmen not car enthusiasts.
If it helps to boost the price of what their peddling they will say anything.

Mr. Bruce, I agree. No matter how correct, a replica is still just that.
I seem to remember them ooohing and awwing all over a Boyd's street rod yesterday, and no one called it a fakey poo 32 ford.
I just think the guy who builds a kit/fake/replica snake should get the same amount of respect for his efforts.
True, we have nothing more than street rods that "look" like cobras,,,,,,except I haven't seen any street rods out on any roadcourses lately turnin any hot laps.........well except for those little "legend" cars with the moto-sickle engines in 'em.

YOU TELL'M
YOU TELL THEM LIKE IT IS , MR BRUCE
YOU ARE RIGHT!
I LOVE MY HOT ROD WITH A COBRA BODY. I EXPLAIN TO PEOPLE THAT OUR COBRAS ARE JUST HOT ROD BECAUSE EACH ONE IS BUILD DIFFERENT. I SAW OVER 200 COBRAS AT DVSFII AND NO TWO WHERE THE SAME. AND I LOVE THAT. EACH CAR IS SPECIAL, DIFFERENT, CUSTOM BUILD. AND WE SPEND WHAT WE CAN ON "OUR" CAR. AND THEN WE DRIVE THE HELL OUT OF IT! MAKES ME FEEL GOOOOD!

Talking about the announcers and most of it just being bulls---, did you notice how they insisted on calling that Challenger R/T a Cuda even after they showed the emblems on it a couple of times. Any MOPAR person would have recognized the difference in body lines immediately, but to keep insisting it was a Cuda after they showed the trunk and grill was a little much.

With all due respect to Alan, when it comes to American cars he is lacking....
1-1966 vette with goldline tires "looks all original, except for those yellow walled tires"
2- Gto "unibody, so a body off restoration is a misnomer"
3-55/6 vette "they painted the engine block to match the car" (car was an older red that looked a bit orange)
4- cuda = barracuda
5- Saying that the TV and Navigation in the silver 512TR is the reason for the premium (sold for 105 or so)....and saying that an 89 TR in mint condition is only worth $60K......
and I am sure there are many more I am missing (wife made me go out for dinner)
I am sure he knows his stuff regarding Jags/Austins...however, they should tell him to keep his mouth shut when the American iron comes up...IMO

Hey guys, don't get bent on what some people think or say. My other car is a numbers match 63 splitwindow vette, which took me three years to restore. So yes, I've put my sweat into both my cars. But the sun came out for a couple of hours on Friday and it was no contest on which one I was going to drive. The Cobra is a riot to drive, and isn't that why we built them.
P.S. It's about as REAL as it gets when I turn the key.

Well theres PLENTY of glass street rods around, Willys Coupe comes to mind. But you rarely hear anyone comment on wether it's an "original" or glass "hot rod". Just shows the passion that comes with the Cobra.

WHAT'S THE BIG DEAL ???
OUR CARS ARE WHAT "WE" WANT THEM TO BE. - - - -
"WE" PICK THE KIT MANUFACTURER - -
"WE" PICK THE SUSPENSION, WHEELS & TIRES - -
"WE" PICK THE ENGINE (SOME OF US ARE BETTER AT THIS THAN OTHERS), (HE, HE) - -
"WE" PICK THE TRANNY - -
"WE" PICK THE COLOR (S) - -
AND "WE" PICK HOW WE'RE GOING TO DRIVE THEM AND WHERE - -
"WE" ALSO PICK WHAT "WE" ARE GOING TO "CALL" OUR CARS - - SOME OF US CALL THEM KIT CARS, REPLICAS, REPLICARS, FAKES, OR SIMULATIONS. SOME OF US CAN CALL THEM "REAL" OR "ORIGINAL". (WITH VARYING DEGREES OF AUTHORITY).
HOWEVER, SOME HONDA DRIVING DWEEB OF AN AUCTIONEER CALLING OUR CARS "TUPPER WARE" JUST PI$$ES ME OFF. I REALLY DON'T CARE WHAT HE CALLS THEM - OR FOR THAT MATTER WHAT HE THINKS - IF HE DOES THINK AT ALL. IT'S JUST THE ARROGANCE OF THE LITTLE DICK HEAD THAT ANNOYS ME.
MY CARS ARE "MINE" TO DO WITH AS I PLEASE, AS ARE YOURS TO DO WITH AS YOU PLEASE.
I ENJOY THE HECK OUT OF DRIVING MINE - WHEREVER I CHOOSE, HAVING A GREAT TIME WITH OTHER COBRA (?) ENTHUSIASTS, TINKERING WITH IT AND SOMETIMES JUST LOOKING AT IT.
BELIEVE IT OR NOT - IT'S THE DIFFERENCES IN THIS GROUP - EVEN MORE SO THAN THE SIMILARITIES - THAT MAKE US UNIQUE, INTERESTING AND "COMPATIBLE". (MORE OR LESS). SOME OF THOSE DIFFERENCES ARE IN WHAT WE DRIVE AND WHAT WE CALL IT.

"knock offs" is a term often heard used by old man himself.
I wouldn't be surprised if it was NOT as accidental as it appeared. It may very well been part of the press release or the talking points provided by none other than.......
I have argued this point with SAI for better part of two years. Demeaning the Replica Industry does NOT bring any added value or legitemacy to their cars. Actually it hurts them.
My guess is, there are far more qualified and interested buyers among those who currently own Cobras than those who own Nissans..
They seem to have a healthier attitude as of late. Too little too late and I am not sure CS himself has changed much, I know some of his employees have.
I wonder what the market will be like 5 years down the road. I don't mean the value of cars as much as who will survive and who won't. It is my opinion there will be Cobras built forever unless the regulatory agencies put the brakes to it. So we all better get used to getting along with one other.
The car we drive today maybe needing spare parts from a company tomorrow that is different than the company we bought our cars from.

SORRY ABOUT THE "DOUBLE POST". I'D LIKE TO THINK THAT I KNOW MORE ABOUT CARS THAN I DO ABOUT COMPUTERS.
OBVIOUSLY I'M NOT "SETTING THE BAR" VERY HIGH.
