You are correct about the aircraft outer skin surfaces being coated with nearly pure aluminum (aprox. .005" thick) over alloyed aluminum to minimize oxidation. Al-clad is the correct trade name for that type of exterior skin material (although there may be others as well) and I believe it's manufactured by Reynolds or Alcoa.
