I'm not a big Chevy fan but just for the say so, my Suburban 4x4 is rated to tow up to 12k. It has the Vortec 8.1, Allison transmission and 4.10 rear end. Best tow vehicle I've ever owned. Over the last 15 + years, I've had two F250's (one 6.9 ltr diesel - one gas 460 4x4), Bronco (351 4x4) and a Tahoe (350 4x4). None of these could tow like the Suburban. The flat torque curve (455 ft-lb worth) and longer wheelbase make a big difference.

I'm currently pulling a toy box (tax deductable cobra hauler) that weighs in at 6300# unloaded. Add the Cobra and gear for the weekend and I'm around 10,000#. Pulls it without any problems at all, even up hills at the speed limit. Of course we won't talk about gas mileage, even though this is my economy car (better mileage than my Cobra).

BTW, so far I am quite satisfied with the 'fit and finish' of this American made, Mexico assembled

SUV.

Argo 1: I didn't know that. Can you get the H2 with the 8 liter?

Why wouldn't they put the 8 liter in the H2? With its extra weight you would think they would have equipped it with the big engine.

How much heavier do you think the H2 is than the Suburban. I think the Suburban is around 8500lbs. Not sure though.

I will tell you that the Suburban with the 8 liter will haul some a$$. Its a brute.

It would appear then that the Suburban with the 8 liter would be the prefered tow vehicle. No?

I have that exact truck in that exact color! Mine has the 410 rear too. Great truck. Takes a lick'n and keeps on tick'n.

I note with interest the riding location. Wish we had areas to ride like that out east.

Evan - Not sure if you can get the 8L...My friend just got one (he get's EVERY new toy as soon as it comes out - go figure). But if it had an 8L option he would have gotten it, so I would be inclined to say no...

I agree about putting a bigger motor in it though, if you drive it you will notice that it's a bit sluggish...and hadles completly different than the Burb.

I would take my Yukon with a supercharger, for what I use it for, over an H2 anyday. Yes, it would look very very cool towing a Cobra, but the "fun factor" driving a Yukon and it's impecable manners make it a better tow vehicle IMO. Now the Burb with the bigger 8L motor (imagine it supercharged) is my ultimate tow vehicle by far.

6T5 BBRA - Where do you go in Mexico with the RV ? I've always wanted to get one and go camping down there but have never gotten around to doing it...Always worried I'd wake up on the ground and everything would be stolen out from under me...

Towing with BMWs, Toyota Sequoias, Range Rovers all because the interiors of the imports are better than American SUV's?

Man, can't the American manufacturer's catch a little break from the imports?
How does the inside trim help towing? I kind like the interiors of current crop of GM TOW VEHICLES!!

Tahoe, Suburban, Cadillac, GMC will run circles around those toys when it comes to towing. Has cupholders too.

If you haven't, go try one the new all wheel steering pickups. If you have a light load "like a Cobra" and a open trailer or a small boat, the 4 wheel steering as a tow vehicle is a kick.

agro1: a lot of America's steel is shipped in nowadays, so it's probably no different than what the Japs use. Plus, most of the Sequoia's are built right here in the U.S by U.S workers. You're right about the 4.6 X5 though ($$$$$!!!!!), but the 4.4 is still a heck of a truck for a lot less money. A Dodge Hemi SD is a pick up not an SUV (but I agree, it's a hell of a truck), and I don't know what the towing capacity is on one. My dads Sequioa will tow quite a bit though. I think it's rated at 7000 or 9000+
Evan: Know what you mean about the short wheelbase. I did tow my father-in-laws boat once with my Jeep and didn't have much of a problem though (21' Sea Ray). I would hope a 12 1/2 ft Cobra would be a cake walk!
Guys, don't get me wrong, I love American trucks (had a Silverado before the Jeep!) and if I were looking at pick-ups it would be American (although the Tundra ain't a bad truck now). But now that everyone is in the SUV market, I feel the scales have tipped in their favor (IMHO). *But I wouldn't turn down my in-laws new full size Tahoe. Parked my Jeep next to it the other day and I felt like it was going to swallow me! Talking about prices though.....I think that was well into the 40's! Nothing's cheap now days.

Well, I'll tell ya, there's a lot less now than 10-15 years ago. Thousands of acres have been closed out here due to some slow moving tortoises (among other things). Hell, I say paint them all bright 'CalTrans' orange so we can play 'see and avoid'. I usually miss the cones on the track!

Regarding the H2, from my point of view, buying it for the status will backfire. You can tell immediately (just look for the rear axle) that it is NOT the real thing. It' sort of like having a Cobra replica (with replica written all over it) verses a real CSX.

BTW, trailer capacity is listed at 7000# max on the 2003 H2 models.

Agro, no Mexico for me. I was just referring to where the burb was assembled. I have been been invited by friends a number of times to go down there but haven't taken them up on it yet. They say it's safe. From some of the stories they tell, I'm not so sure.

Hmmmm,,,,I never thought about the H2 being mistaken for the original Hummer. It's obviously different and in many ways superior (creature comfort, daily driving) to the original. I'd rather have an H2 than a H1 myself.

Hmmm,,,,,is that like saying I'd rather have a replica than an original Cobra? No way! Two different animals!

OK,,,heres the plan! Evan gets a "replica" of the Hummer, an H2. Which of course is actually "real". He uses that to tow his CSX, which is also "real".

That way when he gets to the track the "real unreal" discussion would apply across the board to ALL the "Real 1" vehicles! Ahhh,,,it's a thing of beauty!
