Some guys just shouldn't run a business...
I ordered some custom length axles for my NEARLY complete car. The owner of the company that are the main Moser agent in Australia personally took my order 5 weeks ago. I realise that it takes a while to have the axles made and shipped to the other side of the world. I was quoted 4 weeks.
Having not received the axles one week after their promised delivery, I rang the company. Again, the owner answered the phone. After I explained the reason for my call, he went quiet for a little while, then said......
"Oh, I found a name, credit card number and telephone number on my desk this week and wondered what it was there for. That must have been your order. Oh yeah - here are the specs you gave me. No, I didn't order those axles for some reason. Not to worry, I can get you some in the next order. They'll be about six weeks away" !!!!!
Needless to say, I won't be ordering from them. He rang back in the afternoon to say how sorry he was, and that he'd do what he could to make it up. His offer was for me to receive a small discount on some axles he had sitting on the shelf, but he new perfectly well that the axles were a different length....
It's all good fun....

Craig - What makes you think our guys are any faster than your guys when it comes to ordering " custom " speed parts? Been fighting that crap war for years. Seems the more patient you are with them, the more they try to take advantage. And it has absolutely NOTHING to do with money either, it doesn't seem to faze those guys. Hang tough,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

750hp, couldn't you order direct from www.moserengineering.com ? They narrowed a 9" housing and cut and resplined the axles for my CJ8. First rate service and Mr. Moser handled me on the phone and walked me through the measurements ect., personally. Don't they have UPS down there? ![Big Grin](http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)

Ron - It's obviously too much trouble for some guys to order custom parts (ie - ones without a catalog part number)....
SFCJ - overseas shipping is unbelievably expensive via UPS, Fedex, etc. I had hoped to ship something from DV in Ohio a little while back, and the freight charge was nearly more than the value of the product. It'd be the same with axles. I want to use Moser parts, because they've never failed in all the other cars that I've owned, but I can get Strange brand axles for a little bit more, and pick them up from a shop 2 minutes from my home.

Major screwup...but at least the guy had the guts to call you back and was HONEST about the isse. Most companies just blame it on their supplier, on the shipping company etc.

Craig - Just a heads up - Been told several times now- that you shouldn't get axles that have been hardend on the bearing end for a street car. Seems that if you were to tap a curb they tend to break instead of just bending. As for me though I am using Strange axles that have been hardened and so far no problems to report. If you haven't ordered those axles yet I would at least ask about that.

I just realised how cheap axles are in the US!!!!!
Moser axles for under $300-
We pay $950-AUD ($560USD)....
1350 pinion $120
We pay $340 ($200USD)
Maybe I should have a look at getting them sent out after all....
Ron, Strange realeased a Street Axle a while ago, but they seem more interested in the cycling / twisting fatigue strength than the heat treatment of the bearing end....
Strange Engineering, long time leader in Driveline and Suspension products for professional motorsports, is pleased to announce the availability of a premium quality axle for the high performance street enthusiast. Known as Strange S/S STREET AXLES this totally new product is CNC machined form superior grade forgings selected specifically to ensure optimal induction heat treatment. Hobb-splined before heat treat, Strange S/S STREET AXLES insure a fatigue resistant, precision spline fit for every application.
Strange Engineering designed the tooling to induction harden each axle to efficiently resist the bending loads while allowing torsional twist needed for street performance. As found on all Strange 40 spline PRO RACE AXLES, the Strange Radii Ring is employed on each axle above the precision ground bearing diameter and bearing shoulder radius to minimize stress in this area.
Ahhh, who knows - maybe I'll just get the race axles and stay away from gutters

Got it running a couple of times but keeep tearing the d*m thing down. I'm my own worst enemy on this drag car. Got it certified by the NHRA and am currently trying to get my sons NHRA licence for this summer. Just finished the rear end setup and boy is it unique to a Cobra. 5th arm+classic watts links on a hotchkess(sp?) spring setup. Got most of the expensive stuff now but of recient I haven't had the time to put into it, had a couple deaths in the not so immediate family. In other words, the usual,,,,,,,,
What I read into your strange add is they are concerned with the splined end. As we talked about previous, that end can be greatly helped with external housing bracing and it's a relatively cheap fix. (from Moroso) Not a word about the big end though. Hmmmmm??
Probably a good idea to stay away from curbs anyway, Ya think?
