I'm not sure. I'll have to give that some thought.

I would gladly give my money to my lawyer to keep me safe, my doctor to keep me healthy, and my wife to keep her my wife. That's what money is for...I deplore giving it to a doctor for treating me for a preventable illness (rampant), giving it to an attorney after my assets should have been protected, or my ex wife, when we could have had a better marriage. (Or, dentists who don't tell you about gum disease until you need dentures). That's called "supervised neglect". I see it in medicine all the frikkin time.

But, lets get back to the rather interesting thread......

Wink I got one

While at McDonalds with my son one morning, and old guy was telling his buddy about my SPF.

Old Guy#1 "What is that?"
Old Guy#2 "That is a Healey"
Old Guy#1 "A Healey?, doesn't look like a Healey"
Old Guy#2 "It's a Healey, the guy (me I suppose)butchered the car, and now you can't tell what it is!"

My son got a kick out the old guy.

Went out to eat the other nite and saw a ole buddy.... he asked how the ffr was doing and I said, good, just sleeping for the winter. He said yea, then he went on to say...." I told ( joe blow, another local cobra owner)
that you had a really nice cobra... (joe blow) said, he ain't got ****!.... Well most of us know that is kind of crappy.. but this guy told me what (joe blow) said... kinda weird....

Oh, (joe blow) did have a unique with a 427 2-4's (no paint)
But its kind of funny when I take ole ffr 2877 to the shows and its gets more looks then the 50k cobras!!!!

A young kid walked up tp me last year at one of our monthly cruise-ins and asked "Where's the bottle?"

My reply, "This 460 don't need no bottle."

A friend who has a Ferrari 308 said my car was nice, but his was "hand made". Does he think mine rolled off an assy line in my garage?

I also had a friend with a Ferrari and when I got my Shell valley on the road my friend looked down his nose at my plastic car......this was 1993 the Shell Valley had a well built 302 with a T-5 behind it running a Ford 9 inch with 4:51 gears.

He had a 1991 Testrossa...I rocked his world when we went to Sears Point and all he could see was my rear bumper pulling away on the straights and just barely coming into sight on the turns !!!!!!!!!! Another one of my friends had his automotive performance expectation reset when I took him for a ride.........He suddenly realized that his Carrera...was a boys car ..The cobra is a Mans car !!!!! His words...not mine.

Sold the Ferrari hid the Porche

Today the Ferrari owner drives a Shelby fiberglass bodied Cobra with a 427 in it....they are both cringing awaiting the arrival of the FFR daytona...

...Bucket of crabs... That is THE FUNNIEST thing I've heard in a long time, but it's a great analogy!

Nobody's really had a chance yet to say anything bad about my car. It was delivered on December 1 and it's been the garage (almost) all the time since. I'm still waiting for the IL DMV to send an inspector to check it out and issue a VIN tag, then for rain to wash the salt off the roads. Sure feels great, though, from the little I've driven it around the parking lot and the nearby service road. I guess the WORST thing I've heard anyone say is, "Oh...", indicating a complete lack of comprehension. But nobody's tried to drag me back into the bucket yet...

My two cents:

While gassing up at a local Mobile station, a dreadlocked "Fast and Furious" deciple pulls up in his bespoilered Mitsubishi Eclipse. He jumps out, scans over the the Cobra and his eyes stop at the oil cooler. He immediately barks "Yo, you got a turbo in that thing!?!" Obviously mistaking it for an intercooler, I tell him "No, no turbo". He then asks, "What 'ya runnin' in there?". I reply "a 351 Cleavland". Puzzled, he asks, "is that a VTEC?" Now I figure I'm going to have some fun with this kid. "Yeah, a
VTEC - I pulled it out of a Type-R with a supercharger". His eyes light up, obvioulsy I have touched on the Holy Grail of the import generation. I bet he would have believed it was front wheel drive if I told him. Once I started it up, his puzzled look changed. Fortunately the exhaust drowned out his next comment, better off I'm sure...

Finally, when did "kit car" become a bad word. It must be, because I see people approach me wielding it like a sword. When I go to shows, cruise nights, out to dinner whatever - I don't act like my Superformance is an original. Hell, I didn't even build the thing - yet many people come over, and as if they are exposing a huge scandal - gallantly cry out 'That's a Kit Car!". Then almost spit on it as they turn around and walk away. If I'm asked if my car is a kit, I say "No, it is a replica built in a factory in South Africa. It comes fully assembled - they don't offer it as a kit". As I look at their faces, I know many of them don't believe me. I guess the only saving grace is the piece of crap they drive off in...

Wiz,

Here's one...

the next time a super-kid thinks he's cool, walks up and asks you "where's the bottle?", just tell 'em "Bottles are for Babies - Kid!".

It usually follows with a blank stare, then "Oh."

Or, ask the kid why he has a huge spoiler (increased down force onto the rear wheels) on a front wheel drive car! Gets 'em every time.

I've had this happen about 10X in the last two years of driving my BB FFR. It can happen at a car show or at a parking lot, gas station, etc. Goes something like this: "Hey that's a real beauty. Love that paint. Um... is it real?" "Well no, actually it's not an original Cobra. I hand built the car in my garage." With obvious disappointment on their faces: "Oh. Well...too bad it's not an original. It still looks great."

I guess if I lied it would have made their day? They can't tell the difference -- they have to ask -- yet they see the car for what it is and how pleasing to their eyes it is, yet they have to knock it down. Would it have looked "better" to them if it was "real"?

Makes you feel like the kid getting fixed up on a blind date: "What does she look like?" "Well, she's got a great personality, you'll like her!" Hmmm...

well, many years ago, when some one was setting me or my buddy friends up with a blind date, the warning words were "she makes her own clothes" and the always ominous "she has big bones."

But then, i met Wife # 2 on a blind date, so you just never know how these things will turn out. It was an inauspicous start to the past 25 years. Since she had just gotten divorced, and changed her mind about going out with me at the last moment, but fortunately her girlfriend had the good sense to push her out the door, and lock it behind her, so there was no escape.

all the best....

With about two months on the road, I have the following annoying comments.

- Is that a Miata?
- It sounds real (he thought "kit" = volkswagon)
- From a bent, bedraggled, beat-to-$hit, toyota "get that ugly piece of $hit off the road".

What is really fun about these cars is that it is completely unnecessary to know what they are...the lines are sheer poetry in motion. This has been proven to my satisfaction by the number of people (90% women), why wave or give "thumbs up" on the road.
