Cobra's at an "Import" show?

Why not?? Importxs.com is sponsoring a once a year "show" at the Hawaii Convention Center.

Well the Cobra does have "import" roots, so I'm entering the Excalibur (model JAC 427). Ha ha, this should be interesting. I see they also have a "domestic" category as well as a "European" category.

So what category would a replica Cobra be in?

Hope they have a "rumble" contest, my side pipes are wasted and now sound like "GREAT GUNS".......what was that you said????

You would get a better response at the import show then you would get at a hotrod show.. why don't streetrod guys like cobras anyway... they seem to turn their noses up at cobras ...

Not all street rodders turn their noses up at cobras. I sold my pro streeted model a sedan to build my cobra. Always wanted one and got tired of the streetrodders around here trying to outdo each other. Just started the paperwork and insurance this week. Hopefully, should be on the road by end of July at the latest. Can't wait !!!

Just a comment on streetrod guys that snub replica cobras. I was talking
last week to the owner of a local So-Cal speed shop here in Texas and I asked
him the same question his answer was there are more 32 fords on the road
today than Henry Ford built in Detroit during the 1932 model year. I tried
using the new math to solve the problem but that didn't answer the
discrepancy either. There must be a logical answer. Could it be an accounting
error by Ford ? If you live in a glass house you shouldn't throw rocks.

Rumor has it a Hot Rod builder here on the island is trying to get Cobras "banned" and had one guys registration pulled all ready Now why would a guy do that? Because he doesn't build Cobras is the only thing I can figure, doesn't want the competition.

Pretty cold blooded way to do business if you ask me,,,,,,,

I'm a former hot rod owner myself. Had a '39 Dodge 5 window coupe. Flame throwers and all. I still respect and love the hot rods/street rods. There are some gorgeous cars out there.

I think a lot of it is plain jealousy. Not over the Cobra itself, but over the attention it draws. They spend countless money on their cars and countless hours polishing them, and then some "kit" car, as they see it (even though their cars are kits too), which cost a lot less comes in and steals their thunder. Plus, as stated, compared to the number of rods out there, we're such a small group, they see us as insignificant.

Rods are great, and I hope to own another one along with my Cobra some day. But since I prefer to drive, and fast, I'll stick to my Cobras for now.

Best of luck at the show, Excalibur. Don't let those little Honda fart cans make too much noise!

Streetrodders? Do you mean those guys with the custom chassis, 32 Ford fiberglass body shell, Chevy engine, GM brakes, jag rear, etc that don't like kit cars?

I've won trophies in Street Rod Shows and in Import "Tuner" shows with my Unique. It depends on the shows and the attitudes of the participants. There seems to be more acceptibility in the tuner shows as street rodders are generally an older generation and less likely to accept something outside their main area of interest.
I've got to admit, winning a trophy in a class with 32 street rods was particularly sweet.

Maybe it's the custom paint and hot rod look of my (fill in the blank description box) car. The only nasty jealous "you stole my thunder" looks I get are from vette owners.. although several guys in classic vettes have given me the thumbs up.. about 2,000 thumbs up and counting.. more than one per mile.

For the buck, the cobra gets waaaay more attention than anything I have ever seen.

Don't care what your driving, it don't matter how much you spent or how good it looks. With a Cobra next to it, it WILL steal your thunder. It's the most amazing thing I've ever seen, I can't really figure out why, but it's true!

"Tuner",,,,,the defacto name given to "import cars" these days. The big thing is "tuning" them up. More stickers, fart cans and cool lights underneath. Wait,,,,,I think that was supposed to be "Tuning" the motor. Bottle of nitrous, Play Station in the dash, ground effects skirting. That IS tuning the motor,,,,,,right?? LOL

When I first got my Cobra on the road and attended a cruise or two I was approached by an older gentleman who complimented me on the car. He said something that I have found to be very true. He said that at a show/cruise you will have people who look at the hot rods, GTO's, Corvettes, Chevelles, etc. and they will look at your Cobra. However, they will come back to the Cobra two, three, four times during the event and only look at the others once.

I can see it now.....an ERA 427 powered by a V-tec engine, with neon lights run along the chassis and all throughout the interior, with an LCD monitor and Playstation II on board, slammed down to the ground with a set of 22" wheels, plus a gigantic double-stacked aluminum wing on the back....and don't forget the Type-R badges and Japanese symbols on the side. Oh yeah.

Interesting. This past week-end went crusing with 3 other members of NWCC in Tacoma. Pull into a local cruise-in and immediately the other cars started clearing out. Wasn't a car show or anything but something must have scared them off. Must have been the Thunder of all them side pipes and Fred Hamilton revving that Y-Block in his SPF that sent the spectators scurring about like roaches when the light comes on . Boy what a Blast!!

The term "Tuner" is a widely used term for the new generation of high performance Sport Compact or Sport Import Cars. I don't know it's origin. I hang out with the kids occassionally and have come to realize that many of them are becoming very good at wringing horsepower from their engines and are producing some real handling "G" machines. While I would not have a tuner I do respect some of the effort and results I see.

Two things:

In my travels I have come across several local 'tuner' gatherings, and they have always been very interested in the Cobra. Although they might not know the origin, specifications or history - they definately know what it is. They even know they are expensive (a Cobra costs $500,000 on the Playstation 2 game GT3 ?).

Second, watch out for some of those 'tuner' cars. Although most (maybe 99%) of them are nothing more that stickers and stereos, a few will embarass the hell out of you. I will never mess with a certain white Integra in our area after I watched it destroy my friends Z06 light after light.
