Interesting thread revival - I wonder what car the OP ended up with.

I think the Cobra is just the best car in the world. I buddy of mine calls my car really fast art. Anyway, I find it interesting that Jay Leno a guy that has just about every car known to man, appears to love his cobra the best. Says somthin'...

Just because you have an original Cobra what makes you think people won't ask you "Is it real?" If I'm feeling snotty and someone asks me if it is real I might say "Do you really think you would be here looking at a $1 million car?" I don't mind telling people my Cobra is not an original 1965 Cobra. My Cobra is not original. There are plusses and minuses to a SPF and an original. The biggest minus on the real thing is I can't afford one!

If the OP is sincere with his concern ...
My biggest problem with the Cobra is the fact of people asking me If it's real or fake, I really don't want to deal with that.
... then he should move on 'cause the question will be asked over and over and over and over ...

The funny thing is that everyone asks me if my Cobra's are real and I've had 4 different people at the last couple events walk up to the car's and tell their friends why the car's weren't real Cobra's
99% of the people asking have no idea what a real Cobra is anyway
So everyone that drives a Cobra should tell anyone asking that their car is real

I get the question all the time too. When I tell them it's a replica, I invariably get: "NICE!" or "Beautiful!", as a response. Who wouldn't take pride in that?

Update: I was remiss in pointing out the other drawback - what happens when you don't want to deal with the "real of fake question", but decide to get a cobra replica anyway. Go here to see what happens Gotta Be Kidding
... it will turn you into a condescending arrogant sarcastic asshole full of BS

That's how it should be, and I'm sure if further details are discussed more appreciation is expressed.

I really enjoyed reading all of these comments...A LOT of them hit close to home as my family is in the high end automobile biz and they do a ton of custom exotics.
I am a former ZO6 owner but ALWAYS a cobra lover. While owning the ZO6 for eight years, I had a ton of pressure from my brother to step up and be part of the "exotics4life" group...well guess what? Last summer I found my dream car: A Superformance MKIII built in 2010 with only 2800 miles on the an all aluminum 427 Roush Racing Motor. I have NEVER been happier.
ALL of the exotics guys not only like the car, they love it and include it in all events and shows as an exotic. These are Lambo/Ferrari/Porsche/etc. owners....
Bottom line, you are either a Cobra guy or not. And if you are, nothing else matters...just go pull the trigger and try wiping the perma smile off your face when you are in it or just talking about it!
GL in your decision.

The cool thing about Jay's car is it's an extremely well built replica re-creation too, not an original. He openly acknowledges this with pride in the craftsmanship about how the car was created how he wanted it, with a hand hammered aluminum body, SOHC Cammer 427. He has kept it that way ever since with seemingly no desire to replace with an original because he likes it the way it is. I know more than a few people who sold their originals and immediately built an ultra nice replica to replace it so they could drive it more often. Function first.
