I was thinking about giving up this build project. But not anymore -thanks everyone!
This may just be a bad day, I haven't decided what I'm going to do yet, but I'm not real encouraged right now.

Wow! Thanks everyone for your words. . .
The labor and parts, include $6500 for the Ford Crate Engine, and a few other large dollar items. The labor is actually minimal. It's only 4 days into turning wrenches, but it's actually been going on since January with research and parts buying. . .
I guess I had a real bad day trying to track down what starter motor to buy! Wow that sounds ridiculous after writing it down.
I guess it's been adding up in the past few days, looking for parts that will work with what I got and after I realized that I already invested so much and there is more to go. . . .
I thought I would be spending $40K and now it looks more like $50K. . . But then, I am upgrading everything. . . .
I'll keep it going, thanks for all the encouragement!!

Why so discouraged? How much do you have done?
Maybe a rest is a good idea. Watch some folks cavorting in their Cobras and perhaps it'll help to renew your enthusiasm.

Well, I don't know what "Builder - Parts and Labor" is, but you've got $12k in that alone! My labor guy was a lot cheaper, heck he kept buying more and more stuff for my Cobra ... but he was also darn slow! Took him 10 years to build my Cobra.
... of course that guy was me.
Take a break, visit with some completed Cobras, get the mo-jo back.

Advice:
1. Forget the web page
2. Stop keeping track of your hours.
3. (optional) Stop keeping track of the money you've spent.
4. Make a plot/timeline of what you have to get done.
5. Break it down into do-able tasks and make a schedule.
6. Figure out what tasks you can't do and start looking for outside help.
(remember... this advice is from someone who's trying to finish his car while there is still fossil-fuel left on the planet)
...and, if the above doesn't do it for you.....inspiration...click this daily. |

Fella, you've got one fine Cobra, (A&C), some of the finest parts I have seen put into a Cobra and one heck of a start on it. If it's the gel-coated(?) yellow and black one in the picture, it just can't be that far away.
I don't usually search for business here on the forum, but you are so close, if we can help, let me know. It would be a privilege to finish your car for you!

Rob lives down here, my way. His car is being built by the same builder who takes care of my car for me. It's in really good hands. We just gotta whip Robs' a$$ into shape and get him to relax some with the build. I think it's time for a ride on the track...

That yellow and black one is actually my FFR. That picture was taken when it was getting its' new motor a few weeks ago. That's actually Plymouth Prowler yellow paint. Looks pretty good, huh?

Dude, you've got to relax. Your car is in the best hands it can be in. You've got to trust Tonys' instincts and stop overanalyzing everything. It's your car, and you should research and understand what you are putting into the car. But it seems like it is overwhelming you. Sometimes you've just gotta pick what looks good to you and go with it. Believe me, I'm not being critical of you, I can be the same way you are. But as a friend, I'm suggesting just spending more time enjoying the build instead of agonizing over every nut and bolt. You've chosen some damn nice parts and it's going to be one hell of a car when it's done. Don't you want to be able to look back at it and smile instead of frown? You need to take a ride in my car and feel what my wimpy  351 can do. That'll be inspiration plenty. C'mon up to Pocono on Saturday and watch the Cobra run.

Just take a break from it. Tell the builder not to call for a day or two. Building these things is a love / hate kind of deal. Believe me though, it always works out. You just need a break.

We work on it every Saturday. We're not working this Saturday, which is probably a good thing. I am feeling better about it. I will take it to the end and re-evaluate it from there.
What I do during the week is track down parts, research, etc. . . I just found out that we chose the wrong fuel pump, flywheel and possibibly the clutch and pressure plate. Parts that are not returnable, no boxes. . . more cost to me. . . .
Live and learn. . .
