surge brakes?

Thanks for the tips and info regarding trailer and Kwik-Lift. As I am moving ahead, one more issue came up -- surge brakes or electric brakes. Seems only the expensive trailers have surge brakes. Does anyone have any pros and cons on surge vs. electric brakes? Thanks.

I don't like surge brakes. Try backing up a hill with a loaded trailer. Brakes were on the whole time. Electric brakes can be adjusted right from your dash. In the city I like to run with less brakes on the trailor. Highway I adjust for more trailor brakes. Jim

Electric brakes hands down with a good controler. Must match amperage to braked axles though. What are you towing with? A good exhaust brake beats them all if running a stink rattlin diesel. After a diesel for towing that is all you will want. Take care Jeff C

Electric brakes are the way to go, as stated before, get yourself a good digital brake controller, so you can see how each set up of the brake bias works for your particular towing package and trailer.

Inside your glove box is the wiring harness that plugs in under your dashboard. 4-5 wires neeed to be hooked up to your brake controller, then it gets plugged in underneath your steering column. Simple and easy for you to do as a saturday morning project. No more than a 10-15 minute chore, and that's if your as anal as I am when it comes to wiring.
