Default engine stand question

I need to put my 427so on the stand and need advice on which mounting holes to use to secure motor to stand. It would seem to make sense to use the outermost top and bottom attachment holes however I am a little concerned about using the bottom ones because of the thinness where the starter mounts. Do you think this matters?I do not want the weight to put too much stress at these areas and risk breaking it,but if that is where it is usually done I assume it is plenty strong. thanks;chuck

Chuck,

Since no one else has replied I will tell you how we did mine. Since the main weight of the engine is pulling down and pushing the block back on the bottom, we used the top holes as you said and made sure they were good and tight. Then we just tightened the bolts in the bottom holes until they were snug and I never had any problem. I am sute that tomorrow some of the mechanics will give you a better answer.

Ron

chuck,
as per the first reply, i have never had any problems with the small ear you are talking about! as a matter of fact, when i owned a wrecking yard years ago, i took an old fe block and wailed on this ear with a sledge, because like you, i was concerned with its strength. after a few hard hits, the block actually broke up high where the metal was much thicker! i have had a complete 427 bolted in these places, without a bit of trouble.

Chuck,

We have never had a problem and I have bolted at least 100 of them in that spot.

Now, quit worrying about bolting that thing on an engine stand and start bolting it into the CAR!!!

If it falls on your foot, just call Semko to put you back together...then call Jamo or Evan to get even.

David
