Ant,

I have both aluminum and stainless steel knock offs and use the silver anti sieze. I do not know the diffeence between the silver and nickle anti sieze. The knock off simply binds itself to the steel carrier I don't know if the stainless or aluminum makes any difference either.

All I know is that the tool I use gets them off and on no problem. I have had other BACC members that have had stuck spinners, tried their lead hammers, sledges & 2x4's etc. driven their cars into my garage, I put the tool on their spinner, removed the spinner in 2-3 wacks with the 10 lb. sledge, applied anti sieze put it back on....no rpoblem. :) :) :)

The tool is like Yogi Berra...ugly but it works !!!!!!

I use a copper based hi-temp anti-seize, and I've never had a problem, when I knock-on, knock-off my Trigos. I did once get to use Tony's Tool :D , but that was after some numb-nut knocked them on too tight.

YMMV,

HOLY SHMOLY!

Youve probably destroyed the spinner beyond recognition by now, why not try a stick of TNT?:JEKYLHYDE    %/  :3DSMILE:

Max, I beat that d*mn thing like a red headed stepchild, and there ain't a scratch on it! I beat that thing like a pimp beats a hooker. I hit that thing so hard, by the time it quits rollin' it's clothes will be out of style. I think it's indestructable! I've heated the spinner, iced down the hub, beat it like a 13 y/o boy with his first porno mag, put a 2x4 between the spinner and a jack, and beat the cr*p out the 2x4. If this special socket thing doesn't work I'm gonna get all Animal House on it and break out the oxy/ace torch! I will not walk away with anything but a total victory in the war. It is spinner 10, fatboy 0, but every dog has his day and my tail is still waggin'. I WILL NOT BE DENIED!!!!

SF nothing sticks like what you are describing, not even a cheap suit or dirty undies. Are you sure you are not beating on the wheel? The wheel is the big round thing that has the rubber tire on it, the spinner is the little three pronged object in the middle.

Have you checked to make sure you don't have Team III wheels? You don't beat those spinners off  Maybe you should sell that thing and stick with "Jeeps" :p

I'll make you a great offer - stuck wheels and all. I'll even throw in an anvil so you have something to beat.

The next ACC cruise needs to be your house - we all need to watch this - you could sell tickets ;)

Had an MGB, wire wheels. I finally got the knock off ,,,, off, but the wheel was froze on the axle hub.

Torches, hammers pry bars and one DESTROYED wheel later I finally got it free.

Randy, would you care to place a wager? The lastest line is 7 -1 on the spinner. The over/under on giving up and cutting the spinner off is Saturday @ 5:00 PM. I'm even making some scratch off tickets. You get three spinners in a row you win $500. If I raise enough cash I might even get a couple of Indians and open a knock off casino.

A lead hammer is the trick I use. I have huge plastic lead filled hammers (two different sizes) and they will not do the trick, but my real solid lead hammer works every time. All of the energy of the blow is transmitted tot he knockoff, no rebound like with the other hammers. Of course, the hammer wears out and takes on a rather unconventional shape after a lot of whacks, but it still works fine.

I've got $150 on SFCJ, just trying to bring the odds back down to maybe 5-2 or 3-2.

My bookie in Vegas was actually talking about "getting in on some spinner action" and I thought he was just telling me he was going to go play roulette. Looks like I already missed an opportunity to get in on this one.

GeorgiaSnake 03-30-2004 06:35 PM

The real bet is which will last longer - this thread or your spinner. I say thread.

This thread will go on forever as we will be discussing..........

1) How you got the spinner off?

2) How much you spent replacing the melted axle?

3) How many hammers were required?

4) The deal someone got on a "Hybrid" three wheeled Cobra

5) How many rednecks it takes to remove a spinner?

The list is endless - how much for front row seats next to the cooler?

Can you weld lead? If I weld a lead hammer head on an air chisel that just might do the trick. If I had a lift, I'd pull the winch cable off my F350 and winch that puppy loose(I'd probably pick up the front end of my truck). I might actually try this method, but I've seen the damage flying wire rope can cause(don't ask), and it ain't pretty.
It's not a spinner, it's the Spininater!

GeorgiaSnake 03-30-2004 08:07 PM

Yes ! I have welded lead - two different pieces into one larger puddle. It sticks to rough concrete footings rather well but does not adhere to a slick trowel finishes. If the leadpot turns over it will weld itself to your shoe and pant leg (don't ask).

What time do we tune in tomorrow night for chapter two of "The Spina Dona Turna".

Have you tried a torch? :D Jackhammer? ;) Since you are replacing the suspension anyway, just undo all the control arms, sway bars, etc., and send the whatever assembly you can release from the frame to KMS and let them get the spinner off.  :D .

TC, out of the box thinker. I think it's thinking, at least. :JEKYLHYDE

Allan,
I'll take one.

Ok, tell ya what you do... take it to DVSF, sell tickets for $5 a pop. First guy that loosens the spinner collects $100.

Given the trouble you're having with just this one wheel, I'd suggest at the DVSF you go ahead and do all four!

:)

Morris 03-30-2004 09:07 PM

Is that one of those spinners that doesn't fit right.... and is got more thread contact then it should..... ????

Doug I 03-30-2004 10:23 PM

have to ask .....

it is a real spinner ? j/k

reminds me of a time years ago when we were pressing a big-end pin out of a crankshaft. That puppy was stuck in there tight !! The press didn't shift it, so put it under the bigger press and pushed the 'down' button firmly. No-go. Press number three got it out - and showed us if we'd pressed it in the opposite direction, press #1 would have worked just fine ......

Ron61 03-31-2004 06:25 AM

And the excitement and fun just keeps building. Maybe take the whole rear end out and get it where you can really bang on it without fear of hitting the car. This is Wednesday. I am picking Friday as the day for some knd of accomplishment. Spinner off, car destroyed, wneel cut off with a torch, or whatever other method it takes. :3DSMILE:

I could not believe a thread over "My wheels stuck" to go to 4 pages! I just had to stop in and take a peak ;)

Nothing to add that hasn't already been said, but this is turning into a great topic.

I like Bill's suggestion, bring it to the Fling, we'll raffle off trys and it will come off!

Ed "DV" Combs ..."If you come--you WILL come back!

MAXVELO 03-31-2004 06:55 AM

spinner direction?

Have you eliminated the possability that it spins the other way, as some have mentioned in the previous threads? try to loosen the other three. If they all spin the same direction then at least you know for sure your going the correct direction. If you have one that goes in the opposite direction youve spent all this tim tightening the hell out of it. I assume you've soaked it in WD-40 or something comparible! just a thought......:3DSMILE:
