It appears as though the state of CA is only concerned that you keep sending your registration money. Having said that, this is only an opinion formed from my personal experience.

I am just trying to help keep people out of trouble I know DMV will not let you transfer the old black and yellow plates.

plates
Hey everyone
I know this may be a bit boring compared to many but here in Alberta, Canada there aren't too many cobra's and many people ask what's that so I got plates that say " A COBRA " That should explain it.

No longer available!
I've seen the fake ones and they'er really not that close. Especially, if your used to looking at license plates a lot.
I don't think you'll fool to many cops with them.
I year or so ago I tried to 're-produce' some actual Cali black & yellow plates.
For display purposes only, of course. We still have a few black blanks from 'back in the day' and the yellow ink can be matched.
But I found out, much to my dismay, that we no longer have the dies that were used to press them with.
The dies were sold for scrap metal a few years ago! They were there on the die rack when I left the factory 4 years ago, and now they'er gone. Cali no long has a means to re-produce them.
I could make them look close, but not exact. The cost to re-build the dies would be about $15,000.

I agree with MadMiles442
Maybe "SHY X TWO" OR "SHY SHY" (hush hush, eye to eye), make people think you are/were a "Kajagoogoo" fan from the '80's!!! lol !!!

As I suspected, there are ways to get the vintage look...sorta. But playing it safe is probably the safest way to avoid unnecessary problems with the CHP. I can live with my personal white and blue plate. But still no plate on the front of the car.
I'm just beyond the point where I need to beat the system.
