I am 41 and I bought my SPF when I was 38. I grew up owning several muscle cars and some Corvettes, but the Cobra was always the ultimate for me. I love my SPF just as much today as the day I bought it. It is the only car I have ever owned that the thrill of driving it has never tarnished. My next car will be a SPF GT40 in Gulf trim.

sounds like weare all cut from the same cloth. i have had a dozen muscle cars through the years, and now along with my cobra i have a68 elcamino 396 super sport. it is almost done with a total restoration. we are reinstalling the inereior now. just had it all redone. the car is one of 5000. they only made 5000 super sport elcaminos in 68 it was the first year for a s/s elcamino. also making it even more rare is the fact that is has factory a/c and factory power windows. it is a beautiful ride and since we rebuilt the 396 with a little extra muscle, it is now pushing 450 h.p. but now my timeis really on the cobra with putting the new 427 in it. i sold the 351 and am in the mid'st of swapping engines. take my friend and happy new year.

I am 42 and have always wanted one. Now I can afford to have it and the other toys. Also have a built 2000 convertible vette, and 2 1967 convertible 442's each of which is one of 1807 built.

I am 66 years old. After watching the Bucket List, I knew the Cobra had to get added to this list of "Must Do's" before the final call...
The body style of a Cobra done right is mesmerizing. It looks primevil, savage, steroidal, single purpose. How Carrol Shelby got the design so right is a tribute to his sense of aesthetics. The car is due to arrive in April/May '09. It's been on order for just over a year. In that period of time I have met some great guys, learned a lot about what goes into an engine and car. When I told my wife I ordered the car, all she said was to make sure it had heated seats. Then, a month later she said it's time to remodel the kitchen. That wasn't on the Bucket List! |
72 years in So Cal. 1966 I had cash in hand for one and my then girl friend talked me out of it and I ended up with a Buick. Todays dollars Cobra:=priceless Buick:=bout $1.98.

I'm 63 and just have a need for speed and power, it's so much fun to pull up next to the young kids and they go "Dad, what's that old man driving". When I fry the tires and pull away, I see the youngins jumpin up and down in the car and sayin " Daddy let's get a car like that." Life is sooooo goooood....

I am 52 and started building when I was 48. I completed mine after 3,5 years (another good question is average build duration!). I wanted one since the late 80's, but had kids to educate! Right now I am spending their inheritance on fuel

Sssssss |
Just turned 57. I too grew up in the muscle car era, really only lasted 7 years. My first car was a 1966 GTO. It was rare to see a Cobra growing up in the Midwest, but when we did you could't forget it.

I'm 64 but purchased my cobra when I was 23. Took a week to convince my dad to cosign the loan. Spent the next two years paying off the loan on the car and college.

60-yo new member here in Boerne, TX. Sending a wire transfer tomorrow for a rolling BDR in SoCal and w/ transport expect to get it this weekend. Have had a lifelong itch for a Cobra that owning Porsche's, Corvette's, and assorted muscle cars could never scratch. BTW, thx for the great site, have already gotten some great info on insurance from a thread from years ago.

I am 43. Bought my first cobra at age 32. After owning 7 cobra's, I finally purchased my Kirkham LeMans KMP500 at age 40. I was worth the wait. :JEKYLHYDE

Let's see.........
...I was born on 12 March, 1945.....so that makes my "average age" 32?
Did I get it right? HEY! Just because I'm mentally challenged doesn't mean I can't enter your contest!!!!! |
Quote:
1945 plus 12 plus 3 equals 1960. 1960 divided by 3 equals 653. Your average age is 653 which is not quite as old as Ron61 |
Fwheeew!
I feel much bettah! Actually, since I was borned months before the War ended...I'm technically NOT a BUCKIN' FOOMER!
Yippa daing! |
I entered this world Sept. 1947. However the material I am composed of has been around since the Big Bang. That would make me approximately 4.5 billion yrs. old. I think I look pretty good for a 4.5 billion year old guy! I like this logic, I think?

I got mine a year ago at age 32- I have wanted one since I was 9- I was smart and through out the disclaimer to my wife long ago that it was coming..... yesterday she returned the favour by letting me know her/my baby is on the way- thank god I got it in the garage before she had time to put a wood-panelled station wagon in there!
The thought of waiting until I was 50 to own one of these cars was too depressing- its better than I could ever have imagined even at age 9! |
Damn, I have had ten birthdays since this thread started.
Did I look at that right? |
I get my cobra in a little over a week, just a month shy of my 40th BDay. I have wanted one since I was 10.
|
WOW!
This thread is that old? I've had mine for a couple of weeks & i'm 44. I have wanted one since I fist saw one at 15 in a car show....... Man, it took quite a while to get to here:JEKYLHYDE:D But WHAT a feeling! |
