Well , I have some time this morning. I'm closer to 65 than 64 and I bought my BDR#334 last October without doing any research. Impulsive? You bet. But, I had a history with the Cobras from the early '60's.I used to hang around the race car tracks in the early days of SCCA racing (Marlboro. Vineland. Cumberland , Watkins Glen ,Elkhart Lake crewing for Group 44) and developed some friendships with two Cobra owners racers Bob Brown of Hicksville , L.I. and John Snyder of Silver Spring , Md.

I ended up at Bridgehampton in 63 or 64 working on the Cobras in the same garage that Carroll Shelby and the race team kept their cars. I met Gurney, Miles and McDonald along with the man himself that wekend.

Kept seeing originals throughout that decade and then got into other stuff like raising a family and racing sailboats in the 70-80s'. Prior to buying my Cobra I started going to a few local car shows and saw some originals with the original owner. I visited an aquaintences' private collection several years ago and was told that the Cobra he had was an original. The owner wasn't there so I was not able to get an accurate history of the car but next Friday I will again visit the collection with the owner giving me a personal tour. I know the right questions to ask and I will find about the car and his two GT-40s (new) .Then I started noticing the recreations and found that they were affordable. Taking an afternoon drive in the country last summer I was talking to my friend about a Cobra and then saw one on a trailer. She didn't see it in time and at the next intersection there was another one. Saw one on the interstate 15 minutes later and I couldn't believe it. Three Cobras in less than a half hour A sign from God? Maybe.

Several weeks later I was driving through the small village of Potomac , Md.and looked at the small exotic and classic car dealer there as I always did and I saw two Cobras for sale . I did a U-turn and inspected the cars and decided to finally buy one if I could get the right deal from the sub-dealer (Vintage motorsports was the original dealer) . I was prepared to go to Conn. as I did not get the deal I wanted originally but after two weeks of putting it together I finally took delivery of the titanium w/black stripes car that I originally saw. I love my car but it ONLY has a 351 W producing 375HP and I want more . Looking to purchase a 427 Side Oiler (NOS) and then I will decide which car to put it in ,An ERA 427 S/C or a Superformance GT-40 MK.II painted in heritage colors.

Well in my case I have been dreaming of a Cobra since I was 21 years old and today I'm 49.
I purchased and had delivery of my cobra in March of this year.
The BDR #471.
I have a 351 Windsor that puts out 467 HP. It is a beast.......
That is enough for me. More car than I could ever wish for.
I'm a happy man who has achieved his dream of owning a good reproduction race car.

When I was 9 years old and saw my very first Cobra, I told my Dad that I would have one. It was always 'my goal'. Not just a dream. Well, Dad passed away and left me with just enough money to do about 2/3rds of it. I did finally accomplish my goal at 51. My wife is 39. Thanks Dad. Miss ya - wish he could have seen it.

I live in Sydney, Australia and will be 63 this coming October.

I saw pictures of my first Cobra when I was 19 and have waited 44 years to fulfil my dream.

The build is progressing slowly. I should be registered and on the road by about June next year.

I bought my car new just be for xmas when I was 29 I still have it and love the way it looks. I should sell it since it doesn't get driven but once you pull the cover off and fire it up you think ( Aint no way it's leaven!!!!)

I started building my Cobra when I was 43. I regret building other cars for my "mates" ( I don't see them much) I should have built my car earlier but they weren't available then. Sooo too bad **** happens and you make it right ! I like to emphasize my "kit" isn't like a model car. I have built many parts and modified the chassis extensively. My car is not a bolt together "job"

I just got mine, SPF 2626 at the age of 38. I wanted it since I was 10, but actively started researching for the past 7 years. I consciously did not buy many cars (vette's, mustangs, etc.) that I could have on my saving quest to the cobra.

Glad I did, there is Nothing like a cobra! Nothing.....

Looks like Chris and I are on the same path...I am 38 and recently purchased SPF 2632. Have had no other "fun" cars in my past...this is the first and hope to have it a long, long time.

Chris - as a side note...where did you get your "Y" shoulder harnesses from?

I am 41 and have been planning my build since 1988. Damn I feel old.:CRY: Nevertheless, I recently completed my LS 427 and will have it out of th epaint shop next week.:D Can't wait.

Most of you are soooo young. I first wanted a Cobra when I was about 15. I lived in England and saw them race against the likes of Lotus Cortinas and the other little UK cars. The little cars would buzz all around the Cobras and then there would be this thunderous noise and the ground would shake and the Cobras would disappear into the distance. That sound has stuck with me ever since and now I have it in my garage. I am 57, going on 18!!

When I was 16 my soul was full of lust and a 55 chev would do the trick.. when I was 26 a pickum up truck with a half a tank of gas and a case of beer was all I needed....when I was 36 my soul was full of ambition and a 911 was the ride....when I was 46 a suburban would do the job.....when I was 56, there were new opportunites on the horizon and a Jeep Wrangler was a true sports utility toy....at 66 a Superformance 351 will be a lot of fun.... at 76 I hope my soul will be full of lust.....at 86 I hope to die in a whore house in Central America !!!
