Now at 47 and working on 48 soon. Love mine and have no plans on getting rid of it. My wife wonders how I will climb in and out at 90 but I said the same way as now, just will take a little longer!

While this thread has been interesting hearing the stories and ages behind the purchases, it is hard to get a handle on the ages, especially given the number of posts. Would a poll indicating average age when purchased and another for the current ages of owners be more relevant to show these figures at a glance instead of reading through all the posts? This way the average purchase age as well as the average age of those that still own a Cobra could be seen at a glance. Just a thought.

I just put up a poll here:

I am 60.5, and just building my first cobra. Then at 61 I will begin on the second one. But have been building cars for centuries it seems like.

At 40 years old for my birhtday I bought a '66 427/390 Corvette coupe, for my 50th I bought a Contemporary Motors Cobra. Wonder what I'll get at 60?

Was 52.5 when I acquired CCX-3057 in Sep '08. Never grew up with cars but remember seeing the naked aluminum Shelbys at LAX (Imperial just west of Sepulveda) when I was very young. Started researching replicas in the early '80's with CCX and ERA (and a couple others) being available but never could afford one. When my CCX opportunity came along I took it, great decision on the CCX. Lots of fun to date.

I was 42 when I bought my Superformance Cobra which makes for a solid 33 years of lusting since I saw my first Cobra in "The Gumball Rally."

You guys do realize this thread was started in 1999....that is amazing.

I am 36(and diggin in with both feet to keep 37 from coming on in april) I started my build last year. Hopefully by this time next year it will be done....:JEKYLHYDE

I started with a 74 bronco when I was 17. 35 tall tires, mild cam 302 with a 100 hp shot of juice. Bought a 69 fast back Mustang when I was 19. A little more radical 302 with a 200 hp shot of juice. God I miss that car.

rcobrakit67 03-01-2010 05:26 PM

38 over here.Buiding Mustangs since I bought my first one when I was 16.

DanEC 03-02-2010 05:38 AM

59 in two weeks and took delivery of my ERA kit last month. I'm sure the aches and pains and snake bitten hands will be worth it when I finish.

I was 59 when I purchased my Superformance Cobra and it was a 42 year dream come true. While in the USN on active duty in So. California, I drove an original 427 Cobra that was at the Carlsbad dealership and it was INCREDIBLE. Therefore, after raising 5 kids and all of them through college and 101 other life expenses, I have a Cobra and feel like I am 21 again............I still go out to the garage many nights and look at it and can't believe it is there and all mine.

Long story short I used to work for Allen Grant who raced for Shelby and he had that famous picture of him with George Lucas sitting in his #96 Cobra on his office wall and I said to myself "someday". Been hooked on Shelby's (both Mustangs and Cobras) since then, that was 20 years ago. I've owned various mustangs and finally was able to get a hold of Replica Cobra 3 years ago at 44 years old.

I was 39 when I purchased and started to build my Cobra. That was in 1989. I'm 62 now. Where in heck did the time go?

I just got my kit, I'm 35. Here in Australia it usually costs between 55 and 80k Australian $$$ to build one of these things.
